Downtown Raleigh is undergoing a renaissance of historic proportions. Over $3 billion in public and private investments have been completed or are underway for completion over the next five years. The Downtown Raleigh Alliance’s (DRA) reputation as a hard-working and entrepreneurial non-profit organization has also grown significantly over the past two years. Our goal is to recruit a dynamic leader who can help us continue the great momentum we have in downtown. DRA’s vision is to be the recognized leader and champion for a vibrant urban center. Our day-to-day mission is to effectively and efficiently deliver five (5) core services:

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Downtown Raleigh Alliance (DRA) is seeking an individual to manage the daily operations of the organization and to direct long-term plans for internal programs and external projects affecting downtown. Principal duties for the Chief Operating Officer/Director of Planning (COO/DP) include authoring (and monitoring the implementation of) the organization’s annual work program that is funded by a $2 million budget. The COO/DP supervises six (6) full-time program managers and oversees the Clean & Safe Ambassador Program, a contracted program staffed by an operations manager, 18 security ambassadors, and five (5) clean ambassadors. The COO/DP will also be responsible for conducting and preparing original research to assist the president and the program managers in benchmarking for best practices among downtown organizations and downtowns across the country and beyond. The COO/DP will also be the liaison to the City of Raleigh and other government agencies in the development of strategic and master plans for downtown Raleigh.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Position requires a master’s degree in urban planning, public administration, business administration, real estate, marketing, or a related field; plus, at least three (3) years of staff supervision. The salary range for the position is based on qualifications. Compensation package includes full medical benefits and an Individual Retirement Account contribution.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate has a resume showing increasing levels of responsibility with a successful track record in each job. The candidate is someone who possesses strong supervisory and analytical skills, but also thrives in an entrepreneurial and fast-paced work environment. The candidate possesses depth of experience in at least two of the following fields of expertise: Economic Development, Urban Planning, Marketing, Public Space Management, Public Relations, Festivals & Events Production and Coordination, Membership, and Fundraising. The candidate should also have experience in developing strategic business plans that are rooted in outcome-based performance measures and excellence in customer service. The candidate should inspire program managers to excel by setting the example everyday (e.g., displaying hard work ethic, completing deadlines in advance, submitting work of outstanding quality).
