Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo, (WATG) a global architectural and design firm is seeking a talented and professional individual to join and lead our Planning and Landscape team. The Director of Planning and Landscape will work out of our Irvine, CA office.
The Director of Planning and Landscape is a critical member of the regional management team of a creative, dynamic, and innovative global organization specializing in resort and entertainment properties. While this role is located in Orange County, CA the ideal candidate will have global knowledge of planning and landscape processes and practices.
Key functions of this role are to provide leadership to the regional planning and landscape team, implement strategies to achieve business goals and objectives, build and maintain key client relationships, market planning and landscape services, provide design direction and support to team members regarding performance of scope, collaborate with other design professionals in a team environment to design, coordinate and present ideas relating to a variety of challenging resort, hotel and urban planning projects.
This position requires someone with personal integrity and credibility to gain trust of individuals at all levels within the organization, as well as the ability to communicate concisely and logically. Must have proven business acumen, management, leadership, design and diplomacy skills as well as:
- Ability to manage a department, successfully delegate, guide and supervise the work of others in a collaborative environment;
- Have substantial experience in professionally managing projects of all sizes and levels of complexity, completing on time, providing a quality product, within budget and profitable;
- Ability to market and sell professional services successfully to achieve firm wide goals;
- Ability to build trust and long-term relationships with internal and external clients;
- Continuously seeks and maintains business and industry relationships that result in successful leads;
- Ability to write and negotiate proposals/contracts while balancing client’s and the company’s best interest;

- Ability to mentor, coach, empower employees and pass on knowledge to others and support a continuous learning environment;
- Working knowledge of industry related contractual, financial and risk principles;

- Refined oral and written communication skills and listening skills;
- Customer service orientation and strong organizational skills.
Bachelors or Masters Degree in urban planning, landscape architecture, or related field required. Minimum of 15 years land planning experience including project management, graphic communication, land-use zoning, and client relationships. Registered Professional in Planning or Landscape Architecture preferred.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, PhotoShop, InDesign, Sketch-Up, MS Office, Freehand graphics and GIS preferred. International business travel will be required.
