The Institute for Real Estate Studies (IRES) is a privately sponsored research institution whose advisory board is made up of donors to the Institute. Established in 1985, the purpose of IRES is to foster effective discussion and policy-oriented research between academicians and business professionals in the area of real estate and the impact of governmental activities on the status of property rights. Degree/Certificate offerings: BBABS, MBA, PhD At undergraduate level, Penn State offers a real estate track in the finance major. Students take 4 finance courses and 2-3 real estate courses. Also offered are elective courses in the MBA program, and have an active doctoral program.

Penn State's Smeal College of Business ranks No. 2 in an assessment of real estate programs according to research in the Journal of Real Estate Practice and Education, which measures faculty representation on the editorial boards of leading real estate journals.
