The Institute for Real Estate Studies (IRES) is a privately sponsored research institution whose advisory board is made up of donors to the Institute. Established in 1985, the purpose of IRES is to foster effective discussion and policy-oriented research between academicians and business professionals in the area of real estate and the impact of governmental activities on the status of property rights. Degree/Certificate offerings: BBABS, MBA, PhD At undergraduate level, Penn State offers a real estate track in the finance major. Students take 4 finance courses and 2-3 real estate courses. Also offered are elective courses in the MBA program, and have an active doctoral program.
Penn State's Smeal College of Business ranks No. 2 in an assessment of real estate programs according to research in the Journal of Real Estate Practice and Education, which measures faculty representation on the editorial boards of leading real estate journals. Among the top ten universities,"" the author writes,"" Pennsylvania State University and the University of Wisconsin are notable for their emerging presence on the editorial boards of leading real estate journals. In 2003, Pennsylvania State University had more editorial board representatives that any other university in either of the years studied.""
