The Opportunity

Based in Chicago, Illinois, Blue Vista’s Student Housing Platform is seeking to hire a full-time VP of Acquisitions with 7-10 years of relevant experience in acquisitions and exposure to multi-family property types.  The candidate will work as part of a small team tasked with investing institutional equity into large-scale student housing investments serving major domestic universities. Working alongside other senior team members, the candidate is expected to lead the origination, negotiation, closing, and documentation of new transactions which may include core, core plus and value add acquisitions as well as new developments.  Transaction types include direct investment, joint ventures, preferred equity, mezzanine loans.  The position will have a heavy emphasis on analytics, financial modeling, and qualitative analysis which will be used in key investment-making decisions for the Student Housing Platform.  The position includes a varying and challenging set of elevated level responsibilities and an opportunity for growth in an expanding, well-capitalized real estate private equity company.

Responsibilities/essential functions

  • Originate, negotiate, close, and document new student housing investments
  • Develop acquisition and disposition strategies to maximize value of each investment
  • Solicit, negotiate, and close on debt financing for new student housing investments
  • Participate in fundraising and investor meetings
  • Interact directly with key industry figures including brokers, lenders, owners, and investors
  • Attend conferences and networking events

Qualifications Required

  • Between 7-10 years of real estate acquisitions experience
  • Experience in negotiating and closing real estate transactions
  • Experience in working with and developing junior talent
  • Experience with financial modeling and understanding of key real estate investment concepts
  • Superior analytical, quantitative and technical/computer skills (proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is required)
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a strong work ethic and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Willingness to travel
  • Excellent academic record with an undergraduate degree
