Our current opening is for an experienced Senior Real Estate Paralegal who will work with, assist and support the attorneys in all legal services related to assigned matters, coordinating efforts with other paralegals, paralegal assistants, outside counsel and third party service providers as required. Supervise and provide guidance, instruction, direction and leadership to the paralegals (as assigned) and paralegal assistants (as assigned), and monitors the quantitative and qualitative results to be achieved by the supervised paralegals and paralegal assistants.

Specifically, the Senior Real Estate Paralegal will have responsibility for:

Portfolio Acquisition Matters:

Work with and under the supervision of the attorneys in leading and closing Acquisition and Development transactions:

  • Train and supervise paralegals (as assigned) and paralegal assistants (as assigned); coordinate workflow to and amongst the paralegals and paralegal assistants.
  • Due Diligence and Transaction Documents:
    • Organize and manage Acquisition property and diligence files
    • Coordinate engagement of third party service providers
    • Review and prepare summaries of third-party reports (e.g., Environmental Reports, Zoning Reports, Property Condition Surveys, Geotechnical Reports, Appraisals, etc.)
    • Assist with preparation of initial document drafts: Purchase and lease documents, other acquisition documents including development documents, document exhibits, document amendments, and easements, etc. and, closing documents.
  • Title and Survey:
    • Order/obtain title insurance commitments
    • Coordinate review and mark-up of title commitments and proformas
    • Review comments to title exception documents
    • Coordinate title objections and resolutions of same with attorneys and Title Company
    • Coordinate and negotiate endorsements
    • Coordinate survey review and corrections
  • Closing Tasks:
    • Preliminarily draft and/or review closing documents, including supplemental escrow instructions, settlement statements, deeds, affidavits, etc.
    • Assemble closing documents
    • Coordinate with Title Company and seller's attorney
  • Post-Closing Tasks:
    • Review files and coordinate entry of property-related information into Legal Access Database
    • Prepare closing letter to insurance broker and “welcome letter” to tenant
    • Complete other post-closing tasks as needed
    • Organize and close the file
    • Coordinate preparation of the file for physical filing (Permanent Record File) and electronic filing (Alchemy) and coordinate quality control of documents sent to Alchemy
    • Work with paralegals as necessary on post-close follow up
  • Development Projects:
    • Organize and manage development files
    • Manage project development process and progress
    • Coordinate Landlord’s rep work and construction site monitoring with engineering firm
    • Organize, review and coordinate construction draws and payment of same
    • Handle close-out of development files, including all final documents needed to complete final funding and revisions to the Legal Access Database

Audit, Document Retention, and Alchemy:

  • Coordinate pulling of files and documents as needed for auditing
  • Assist attorneys and Legal Coordinator with corporate records retention as needed
  • Assist attorneys with on-going document retention, including Alchemizing of new and on-going matters


  • Locate, review and interpret various real estate documents for transactions
  • Legal research and investigation
  • Document review and drafting
  • Prepare summaries of documents
  • Train new employees
  • Special projects and duties as assigned

Portfolio Management Matters:

Work with and under the supervision of the attorneys in handling a variety of Portfolio Management matters:

  • Document review, preparation of initial drafts (and re-drafts), analysis and documentation, e.g.:
    • Sale agreements
    • Exchange documents
    • Lease agreements
    • Lease amendments
    • Letter agreements
    • Lease terminations
    • Consents to sublease
    • Lease assignments
    • Collateral assignments and leasehold mortgages
    • Alterations and improvements
    • Landlord waivers and subordinations
    • Indemnification and access agreements
    • Oil and gas lease agreements
    • Landlord estoppel certificates
    • License agreements
  • Review, process and work with Leasing and Disposition Directors, Manager of Easements and Condemnations and/or Property Managers, tenants and other parties on:
    • Condemnations
    • Easements
    • Rights of way, rights of entry and similar agreements affecting title and access to properties
    • Notices received from government entities regarding zoning matters, public improvements and similar concerns
    • Property Management contracts
  • Assist attorneys with:
    • Leasing transactions, including assisting tenants with due diligence, closing tasks (e.g., secondary document review, obtain insurance certificates and monies owed; new tenant Welcome Letter; post-closing tasks (e.g., Transaction Report and post-closing follow up) and ongoing compliance (e.g., Notice of Default and Demand Letter)
    • Disposition transactions, including assisting buyers with due diligence and title, closing and post-closing tasks
      • Tenant bankruptcies
    • Routine litigation matters, e.g., personal injury cases, mechanics liens, etc.
      • Property and liability primary insurance claims and related matters
    • Reviewing and interpreting REA issues and other similar title documents
    • Managing and monitoring environmental issues, including review and analysis of environmental reports
    • Maintenance of the Environmental Monitoring Report

Title Issues and Ownership and Encumbrance Reports:

  • Handle miscellaneous title issues
  • Assist paralegals and paralegal assistants as necessary with periodic title reviews (i.e., ownership and encumbrance reports)

Bottom of FormEducation and Experience:

  • Minimum of 6-12 years of relevant and on-point legal experience;
  • Bachelor’s degree with proven academic success, together with significant experience in commercial real estate transaction law, or equivalent combination of education and on-point legal experience; and
  • Combination of education, training, experience, skills and other characteristics that would provide the requisite knowledge and abilities in support of the essential job functions;

Certificates, licenses or registrations:

  • A paralegal certificate from an ABA approved school (or otherwise meet the requirements of AB1761).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent computer skills including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access; highly adept at internet and legal research;
  • Perform a variety of duties within established time frames, often changing from one task to another of a different nature as circumstances dictate;
  • Consistently dependable and highly reliable; have a very efficient and effective working relationship with colleagues and work well with a diverse group of attorneys, paralegals, and other legal staff, as well as other business contacts;
  • Superb organizational and administrative skills, including performing duties consistently accurately and timely;

  • Superior analytical and critical thinking abilities;
  • Ability to demonstrate resourcefulness and lead team of paralegals (as assigned) and paralegal assistants (as assigned);
  • Strong understanding of basic, intermediate and in certain cases, advanced legal document drafting; and
  • Highly proficient; exceedingly professional; and
  • Highly effective communication skills (verbal and written), ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision and take direction with minimal instruction, while working autonomously and taking the initiative to seek guidance where reasonably needed.
