Senior Director, Data Center Operations

The Expertise We’re Looking For

  • Minimum of 8-10 years leadership experience of large corporate data center infrastructure operations within a 24x365 environment, or equivalent industry experience in a closely related technical field.

  • BA/BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering is preferred.

  • Graduate degree in Engineering, Real Estate, Facility Management or Business is desirable.

  • Completion of an accredited State Licensing program resulting in a Master License in electrical or mechanical trades is a plus.

 

The Purpose of Your Role

 

Reporting directly to Fidelity’s VP of Real Estate Operations, the Director of Data Center Operations is responsible for the cost-effective design, installation, operation, and maintenance of all data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure required to provide pure, uninterrupted power to and heat rejection from mission-critical data processing systems at one of Fidelity’s enterprise data centers. Prime responsibilities include leading and training a 24x7 Data Center Engineering Operations team, day-to-day management, retention, and recruiting as required. This position is also responsible for local implementation of the standards, guidelines, strategies and initiatives developed by the FREC Engineering Services staff to ensure highly reliable critical IT space is available and continuously operational.  This role will require you to work collaboratively with Data Center Directors, Real Estate Operations, Project Management, and other functional areas.

The Value You Deliver

  • Managing the execution of work that alters the physical layout of the critical electrical/thermal infrastructure to provide minimal risk of business interruption during execution. 

  • Develop annual administrative, operating, and capital budgets which provide for staffing, contracted services, maintenance, repairs, energy management, initiatives, and infrastructure upgrades/modifications for inclusion in annual G&A and capital budget and forecasting tools. 

  • Accountable for power-space-cooling capacity planning, and working collaboratively with clients/tenants to provide greatest asset utilization with minimal risk.

  • Participate in the project delivery from conceptual design through to final commissioning and sign-off, identifying quality control issues that could affect the project outcome and providing timely feedback to the project manager.

  • Respond to and resolve abnormal operational incidents in the data center, other assigned critical spaces and systems and determine root causes of failure.  In close coordination with the Engineering Services staff, develop, communicate and implement strategies to prevent recurrence of failures.

  • Coordinate all internal and external service providers.

  • Develop all change control documentation related to critical infrastructure components in assigned Data Center, assigned critical spaces and systems.

  • Represent FREC at Senior Change Control meetings to provide background information on proposed sensitive work, and to obtain consent to perform scheduled and unscheduled work in assigned data center and campus wide critical systems.

  • Develop staff training materials, schedules, and operational and emergency response procedures specific to assigned sites to ensure reliability goals are achieved.

  • Work cooperatively with other Data Center Directors to coordinate the performance of maintenance and repair as well as emergency work and to ensure consistency of process, procedures and best practices are incorporated across all data centers and regional infrastructure.

  • Contribute to nationwide Engineering Services initiatives and other special projects as requested.

  • Generate reports with respect to load levels, reliability metrics and project status for review by Senior Management.

  • Participate in the FREC Engineering Services audit process by administering inter-data center audits as well as initiatives to enhance and upgrade critical room design guidelines, standards, and best practices.

  • Support Fidelity’s ISO-14001 Environmental Management System, ISO-27001 Information Security Management and SSAE-16/18 regulatory reporting requirements.
