About the job:
The Assistant Controller will be responsible for preparing financial statements that follow all regulatory and accounting guidelines.  This position will be responsible for identifying and preventing discrepancies and establishing control systems.  The Assistant Controller will have a strong knowledge of accounting principles, will be organized, and must be able to carry out tasks autonomously and collaboratively with other team members.  This position will report directly to the Controller and the job responsibilities include a variety of tasks including:
• Provide hands-on supervision for day-to-day accounting operations, including supervision of the accounting staff;
• Drive the integrity and timeliness of the month-end financial close process and production of monthly financial statements;
• Oversight for all financial functions including maintaining general ledger accounts, tenant collections, bank reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and AP function;   
• Manage journal entries, review monthly bank reconciliations, and quarterly balance sheet reconciliations for the financial close process; 
• Work directly with lender relationships on the preparation and timely submission of compliance related items;
• Partner with construction management team in the preparation of monthly construction draw packages;
• Assist in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with legislation and establish best practices;
• Development of operational procedures and documentation of data flow;
• Development of system controls to ensure data integrity;
• Facilitate and assist the annual tax preparation process;
• Ad-hoc financial reporting and analysis as required by the Controller, President & CEO, and Joint Venture Partners.
Qualification requirements include relevant accounting management experience, strong accounting knowledge and superior interpersonal skills: 
• Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance
• 7-10 years of financial reporting experience required
• Experience in private equity or real estate a plus
• Experience with financial modeling and joint venture waterfall structures required
• Good presentation skills and ability to concisely communicate
• High energy, positive attitude, proactive problem solver
• CPA is a plus
• Experience with Yardi is required
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products is required, primarily Excel
