The Company

Our client is a privately held multi-family investment management firm offering a wholly integrated package of property management services, including: on-site asset management, construction supervision and due diligence. Our client has a national presence with a focus on properties in the Southeastern United States, currently with a presence in nine states: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia and Tennessee.

Position Overview

The CFO will oversee all areas of the accounting and finance, treasury management and risk management.   Additional responsibilities will include HR and IT oversight.  This person will work closely with the owners, development, construction, property management and leasing departments.  They will also oversee banking and outside partner relationships.  As a member of the senior management team, this person will serve as an advisor to the owners, providing financial input on issues and investment opportunities.


Accounting & Finance

  • Oversee and monitor accounting operations of the company
  • Create an organizational structure within the accounting department to facilitate the achievement of the department’s short-term goals and long-term objectives
  • Manage and oversee AP, AR accounting and finance
  • Compile and analyze financial reporting packages
  • Collaborate with external auditors as needed
  • Complete periodic bank reconciliations
  • Manage the preparation of payroll for personnel
  • Supervise transaction-processing operations
  • Oversee outsourced accounting functions
  • Maintain an organized and orderly filing system of all accounting documents
  • Maintain a comprehensive system of accounting records
  • Responsible for the selection and conversion of all systems
  • Ensure the accuracy of the organization’s financial results and reports
  • Ensure that financial reports comply with current accounting principles and financial reporting standards
  • Publish complete and timely financial statements to company executives
  • Recommend benchmarks for financial performance goals
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal tax filings and reporting requirements
  • File quarterly and annual reports with the Securities and Exchange Commission
  • Schedule timely payments for debt repayment
  • Maintain a system of controls over all transactions
  • Manage lender relations
  • Preferred experience with RIA compliance


Debt – Acquisition and Refinancing

  • Work with acquisitions to determine the cash needs for each new deal, review the initial proforma for each deal to ensure sufficient funds are raised to pay all expenses


Investor Reporting

  • Determine the needs of specific investor groups and create a standard reporting format for each property
  • Coordinate and track the preparation of all reporting to investors.  Review and approve specific reports to investors and deliver to owners as applicable
  • Partner on an annual basis with outside accountants to prepare financials at an investor and property level



  • Oversee the entire budget process
  • Review annual property budgets and determine allocation and distribution on a yearly basis
  • Review with owners as a part of the annual budget process
  • Review and approve the initial construction budget for all major projects, capital expenses, tenant improvements, etc.
  • Prepare monthly and annual operating budgets
  • Account budgetary variances and communicate discrepancies to management
  • Approve Tenant Letters/CAM & Tax Reconciliations with Asset Managers and approve


Human Resources

  • Oversee HR department
  • Partner with external HR consultants
  • Review/authorize insurance and benefit programs including Health Insurance & 401K.



Candidate must possess the following skill set and background:

  • BS/BA degree. CPA, MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in commercial real estate accounting or finance
  • Previous real estate loan financing experience required
  • Strong management and organization skillset
  • High level of proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
