West Harlem Group Assistance, Inc.
About the Company
West Harlem Group Assistance, Inc. (WHGA), a community based development corporation was established in 1971 to revitalize the under- invested West and Central Harlem communities riddled with dilapidated and abandoned buildings. However as Harlem over the past several years has experienced substantial economic growth, WHGA has expanded its supportive and social service programs to residents facing displacement.
WHGA's core efforts include affordable housing development and preservation as well as asset building initiatives such as homeownership and small business development.
Housing Development and Preservation
To date, WHGA has developed over $110 million in low to moderate income housing totaling 1,640 units, 900 units are self-managed WHGA.
On October 15th, WHGA's new Healthy Food Hub at 625 Lenox Avenue officially opened to the public. The event was well attended with many community members, community partner organizations, including Corbin Hill Farm and a guest celebrity. Visit the Event Photo Gallery.
