About the Company
Founded in 1870 and incorporated in 1900, Alexander & Baldwin is a premier Hawaii company, with interests in real estate development, commercial real estate, agriculture, natural materials and infrastructure construction. We are a 145-year old company, rooted in our Hawaii land heritage, leveraging our unique assets for long-term growth.
Alexander & Baldwin, through its real estate subsidiary A&B Properties Inc., develops and sells real property, primarily in Hawaii, and operates a commercial portfolio comprising 5 million square feet of retail, office and industrial space comprising 59 properties located in Hawaii and on the U.S. Mainland. A&B Properties also owns nearly 89,000 acres of land, primarily on the islands of Maui and Kauai.
Much of the landholdings on Maui are farmed by Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company (HC&S). On Kauai, McBryde Resources, Inc. leases our 4,000-acre coffee plantation to an international, vertically-integrated coffee company. Both HC&S and McBryde are significant renewable energy producers, generating over 200,000 megawatt hours of electricity from renewable energy in 2013.
In October 2013, Alexander & Baldwin acquired Grace Pacific one of Hawaii’s largest natural materials and infrastructure construction companies, and its largest asphalt paving contractor. Grace’s vertically integrated, wholly-owned and joint venture operations include quarries on Oahu and Molokai, a liquid asphalt import terminal on Oahu, and hot mix and paving operations on all of Hawaii’s major islands. Its operations also include Hawaii’s largest road safety and transportation construction services contractor and Hawaii’s only precast/prestressed concrete building materials manufacturer.
