Opened in 1855 as the nation’s first children's hospital, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is dedicated to improving the health of children through excellence in patient care, research and education. CHOP provides world-renowned medical and surgical care to children from around the globe. CHOP has also been a pioneer in pediatric medicine, responsible for many clinical innovations.

CHOP offers a full range of medical and surgical specialties and many special programs and centers, some of which are unique to the region. CHOP owns and operates the Richard D. Wood Pediatric Ambulatory Care Center and Children’s Seashore House, a long-term rehabilitation hospital. Both are connected to the Main Building. Additionally, through the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Care Network, CHOP operates more than 50 pediatric and adolescent primary care practices and specialty care centers, and staffs inpatient newborn and pediatric units at 12 community hospitals throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
