About the Company

Aequo is a fully integrated real estate investor and developer focused on inpatient medical real estate. As of Q1 2026, Aequo has acquired approximately $200 million of healthcare real estate since 2023, including assisted living, memory care, inpatient substance-use disorder treatment, acute psychiatric and inpatient primary mental-health facilities across 10 states. Aequo is building a scaled portfolio through sector specialization, fundamentals-based underwriting, active asset management and long-term capital.


Prior to founding Aequo, its principals have developed, financed, and acquired over $1B of medical and other real estate including multifamily, student housing, hospitality and retail. Aequo was founded by its principals and BLG Capital Advisors to build upon this successful medical track record and leverage the principals’ decades of niche real estate aggregation, leasing, and transactional experience to capitalize on the explosive growth of the sector and aggregate a portfolio of inpatient medical real estate at scale.

About the CEO

Aequo is managed by its two Managing Principals, Ben Gray and James Jago, and the role will report directly to the Managing Principals.

Ben is an experienced professional with over 15 years of experience in real estate, private equity and corporate transactions. Ben was most recently a Senior Partner at Quartz Lake Capital, and prior Ben was Managing Director and General Counsel at $30B+ real estate private equity fund manager, BentallGreenOak, with responsibility for all legal matters across the global business. Prior to BGO, Ben was a corporate M&A and fund formation attorney at Mayer Brown, and holds a JD from Loyola University Chicago School of Law and a bachelor's degree in finance from Tulane University.

James is a versatile investment professional with over 15 years of diverse niche real estate and corporate transactional experience. Over the course of his career, James has transacted on more than $2.5 billion of investment value across the spectrum of real estate asset classes including senior housing, behavioral health, student housing, multifamily, hospitality, retail, office and land-lease communities. Prior to Aequo, James oversaw investments for seven years at a large FL-based family office, and prior to that James was a Managing Director at real estate private equity fund manager, Green Courte Partners. James joined Green Courte from Hyatt Hotels Corporation where he worked in the corporate strategy and real estate groups. James began his career in credit at Merrill Lynch, holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Tulane University and is a CFA Charterholder.
