The Company was formed in 1997 by principals with successful investment management and real estate expertise who have created a premier real estate merchant banking program investing in opportunistic and niche real estate market sectors. The Principals average approximately 18 years of real estate and investment experience across a variety of disciplines, including acquisitions, redevelopment, development, property and asset management, leasing, investment banking and principal investing. Having successfully invested $560 million of total capital on behalf of its sponsor, the Company raised $221 million of equity commitments for its first closed end third party fund (“Fund I”) in 2000, which included major corporate pension funds, foundations, insurance companies and commercial banks among its investors. Fund-I equity commitments have been fully drawn and when married with debt and equity from its operating and development partners total capital investments have reached $1.7 billion. Fund I invested in ten transactions four of which have been harvested to date. Following the success of Fund-I the Company raised a second closed end third party fund (“Fund-II”) which was completed with a final closing in late 2004 with $500 million of total equity commitments from major corporate and public pension funds, foundations, insurance companies and commercial banks among its investors.
