Job Summary:

The Development Associate is responsible for assisting the Development Team (Managing Director, CEO, VP of Development, Marketing & Leasing, Accounting) in each development phase of the Company’s development projects, which are currently comprised of large-scale, Class-A Mixed-Use Residential Urban Infill projects in and near Downtown Los Angeles. The Development Associate will be one of the main points of contact for outside architects, general contractors and consultants to monitor and expedite the Development Process from purchase due diligence through design, entitlement, construction, completion and closeout. The Development Associate is responsible for maintaining important client / consultant / City and other relationships between City Century and such groups so as to foster a positive, efficient and effective environment.

Essential Functions:

  • You will be working on the high profile Olympia Project consisting of 3 hi-rise buildings located in downtown LA  
  • Assist in negotiations for land/zoning approvals with local approving authorities and for agreements with outside Consultants.
  • Research and obtain information regarding all applicable codes and regulations which would affect the successful development of a site; determine timelines for permitting processes.
  • Along with Development Team, take action to effectively control project costs through the use of job cost reports and proformas and efficient management of project design and construction budgeting.
  • Assist supervisors to complete all land development projects on time and on budget.
  • Participate in the management of the Owner’s Construction Representative and the applicable General Contractor(s) through the pre-construction and construction processes.
  • Facilitate and actively participate in development meetings with the team and outside consultants.
  • Coordination of paperwork for Consultant contracts and payments.
  • Coordination with accounting team to understand current costs and costs to complete for specific line items and tasks.
  • Ensure that site files are organized, maintained and updated.
  • Maintain an ongoing working knowledge of local land acquisition markets.
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of current market prices in relevant municipalities.
  • Participate in the sales and marketing initiatives throughout the development process.
  • Support the Development team as necessary.

Experience & Education:

Qualifications/Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

  • Graduate degree preferred, Bachelor’s degree required
  • City of Los Angeles / LADBS & City Planning experience is a big plus
  •  Proficient at project management
  • Industry experience of at least 5 years
  • Ability to perform essential job duties/functions with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to safety or health of employee or others
