Position Summary:

 

The Real Estate program's objective is to provide diversification and attractive risk-adjusted returns to UC Investments' portfolios over the long term. The Real Estate team invests in and manages a diversified, global portfolio of commingled real estate funds, co-investments, and direct investments in properties.

 

As a key member of the Real Estate team, the Senior Investment Analyst will support the evaluation and execution of prospective investment opportunities, including funds, co-investments, and direct investments. This includes assisting in the sourcing, due diligence, structuring, and recommendation of these investments. The Senior Investment Analyst will also support the ongoing management of the Real Estate portfolio by analyzing investment performance and risks.

 

In addition, the Senior Investment Analyst will review and assess industry research to help the team monitor portfolio risk and find opportunities that offer attractive risk-adjusted returns.

 

Finally, the Senior Investment Analyst will prepare and oversee the production of reports and presentations to stakeholders and the UC Investments leadership team.

 

UC Investments has a small team that believes in collaboration. In addition to supporting the Real Estate team, the Senior Investment Analyst will also collaborate with colleagues across UC Investments.

 

The Office of the Chief Investment Officer ("UC Investments" or the "Office") is responsible for managing the University of California's retirement, endowment, working capital, and cash assets under the policies, guidelines, and performance benchmarks established by the Board of Regents.

 

The Office adheres to the highest ethical and professional standards in serving the investment management needs of its stakeholders, which include the students, staff, retirees, and alumni of the University of California's ten campuses, five medical centers, and three national labs.

 

The UC Investments' team oversees the investment, operations, risk management, performance reporting, and administrative functions of the Office. Senior Investment Analysts are part of the Investments team, which is responsible for producing attractive risk-adjusted returns for UC Investments portfolios through superior investment selection, portfolio construction, and risk management. The Investments team is organized by asset class, including Public Equities, Fixed Income, Absolute Return, Private Equity, Real Estate, and Real Assets.

Duties

 

Support the Real Estate team in conducting due diligence of prospective investments from beginning to end

 

Support the negotiations and structuring process of fund investments, co-investments, and direct investments to optimize outcomes and ensure adherence to the Regent's policies.

 

Maintain active involvement with investment partners.

 

Represent UC Investments on Advisory Boards.

 

Prepare and maintain pipeline reports for the Real Estate team's review and discussion. 

 

Job Requirements

 

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience in investment management, asset management, investment banking, or related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Ability to individually produce qualitative and quantitative investment analysis.

 

Superb oral and written communication skills.

 

Exceptional interpersonal skills and professionalism.

 

Sound judgment to ask informed and discerning questions both internally and externally to seek desired information or understanding.

 

Strong intellectual curiosity and ability to develop independent, original viewpoints.

 

Demonstrated proficiency in relationship management and the ability to build network of industry contacts.

 

Experience working in a collaborative, team-based environment.

 

Experience analyzing financial statements, building valuation and operating models, synthesizing large amounts of data, and reviewing the technical work of other team members and external partners.

 

Highest integrity and ethical standards.

 

Strong interest in working for a mission-driven organization.

 

Strong interest in real estate.

Required

 

MBA/CFA or a specialized professional designation and minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.

 

Investment experience at a direct investment platform, endowment, foundation, pension plan, sovereign wealth fund, family office or related advisory firm or consultancy.

 

Professional experience in real estate and thorough understanding of the real estate industry.

 

Knowledge of multiple asset classes.
