The role of the Capital Markets & Equity Manager is to lead private capital raising initiatives across the company by managing and negotiating equity closing transactions. This role will focus on growing the high-net-worth individual, family office, and institutional equity relationships of the company. This team member will be responsible for continuing to drive the goals of the firm by raising private capital in an efficient and cost-effective manner. The Capital Markets & Equity Manager will need to be an individual that has direct experience in capital raising efforts at other firms and can manage many projects at one point in time for the company. This individual will need to have a detailed knowledge of development underwriting, legal structuring, and tax strategies to successfully perform the duties of this position.

 

Key Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Focus on raising capital. Build and cultivate existing investor relationships with family offices, high-net-worth investors, institutional RIAs, fund of funds, etc.
  • Identify potential investors and develop proper points of contact, both direct and indirect, in order to develop direct relationships for capital raising
  • Responsible for identifying and addressing legal, tax, and general structuring issues for capital raises with principals
  • Coordination with all departments to ensure that any proposed structuring is manageable with the current corporate structure and operations
  • Initiate calls to investors and meet face-to-face to discuss investment opportunities
  • Participate in strategic planning with senior management to set financial goals, as well as the company’s strategic agenda
  • Effectively articulate the investment philosophy and strategy to potential and existing investors
  • Coordinate directly with the Asset Management team in regard to on-going compliance, exit strategy planning, and side letter tracking
  • Drive and manage the institutional investment process
  • Participate in investment, valuation, and risk management processes
  • Assist principals of the firm with strategic decisions and business initiatives associated with fundraising
  • Build network of institutional investor relationships as foundation for future capital raises
  • Lead process of the development of all marketing materials (investment packages, website, presentations, letters) used in the capital raising process; ensure consistent standards for all material and in all external communications
  • Participate in organizing investor due diligence through a formalized deal room
  • Coordinate with the investor relations team on their communication protocols for all boarded investors, including distribution of periodic performance updates and financial information
  • Complete any other items as assigned

Skills/Education:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or Economics. Master’s degree in Real Estate Development or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of real estate experience, prior experience with REIT, RE Investment Banking, Developer, or Private Equity preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record of excellence in academic, professional, and personal endeavors
  • Direct experience in capital raising efforts, preferably for a Real Estate Developer
  • Experience working with family offices, endowment funds, and institutional equity
  • Experience in multiple asset types including: Retail, Industrial, Entertainment, Multifamily, and Self-Storage
  • Experience with multi-tiered joint venture waterfalls or similar structures
  • Experience in the negotiation and understanding of institutional-quality term sheets, operating agreements, side letters, and tax structuring
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills specifically related to financial analysis
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact with current and potential investors both in-person and via email
  • Highly detail-oriented with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage a high workload with the goal of continuing to grow with the firm
