The Company
Dakota Enterprises, LLC (“Dakota”) is a vertically integrated real estate development company focused on multifamily development and asset growth. The firm develops, performs ground up construction, manages, provides asset management, and raises its own equity for development and acquisition. The firm was founded in 2007 and is based in Houston, Texas where most of its assets are focused. Dakota has recently moved into its new headquarters’ and has a pipeline of projects generating $30MM-$50MM of annual revenue.

Position Summary
Director of Finance and Operations will oversee all financial aspects of the business and drive the company’s financial strategy and planning. You will also be responsible for managing all activities related to the daily operations including regular cash flow analysis and development of the company. You will engage in, financial modeling, contract administration, and budget development for projects which would include new construction and rehabilitation of workforce housing, or market rate deals. You will engage in cross functional duties with Construction Management and Property Management to monitor the progress of each investment to ensure profitability and on time delivery. You will review and manage contractual agreements of lenders and investors through each phase of the project from predevelopment, construction, and lease up.

These responsibilities will be accomplished through positive leadership, direction, and motivation of all employees. This senior position is developing and continuously refining an effective and efficient process. You will report directly to the owner, will directly supervise three team members and oversee a group of ten others: responsible for training, coaching, and inspiring them.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Oversees and directs budgeting, audit, tax, accounting, purchasing, real estate, long range forecasting, and insurance activities for the organization.
  • Directs the Accounting Team in providing and directing procedures and computer application systems necessary to maintain proper records and to afford adequate accounting controls and services.
  • Coordinates tax reporting programs and investor relations activities.
  • Analyzes, consolidates, and directs all cost accounting procedures together with other statistical and routine reports.
  • Analyzes operational issues impacting functional groups and determines their financial impact.
  • Provide guidance and direction to subordinate executives and managers toward their professional development, including weekly company operations meetings and regularly scheduled individual staff meetings.
  • Serve as a member of the management team providing financial data and analysis as required.
  • Lead, implement, manage, and evaluate operations processes and procedures in accordance with the standards and procedures set out by the organization.
  • Assist in developing strategies and implementation plans to improve and standardize all aspects of operations.
  • Assist with contract writing and contract-related questions.
  • Ensures the operations and profitability of the assets are maximized.
  • Work with acquisitions, finance, regional managers, and analyst teams to ensure due diligence on new acquisitions in the region.
Requirements Knowledge and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance, Business, Real Estate Development or related field.
  • Advanced degree preferred, but not required.
  • Highly transparent, ethical, and driven.
  • Creative self-starter and team player willing to go above and beyond on a regular basis.
  • Strong quantitative and technical/computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced understanding of commercial real estate underwriting, documentation, terms, structures, property types, and markets preferred.
  • Advanced analytical skills with strong written and verbal communication capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, work closely with others as well as independently to produce accurate, detailed work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Excellent inter-personal, written, and verbal communication skills to include the proven ability to present to an executive team, advisory board and outside investors.
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to develop and implement a long-term strategic plan.
  • Strong performance driven management experience.
  • Ability to lead and motivate employees to produce quality work product within tight timeframes, while simultaneously managing multiple projects.
  • Strong organization skills, accurate, and detail oriented.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently to establish and manage work priorities, activities, and timelines to achieve results.
