Overview:

The financial reporting process is an integral part of Accounting. As such, Brick Lane LLC is seeking a Controller to perform these key roles and responsibilities. You will be a valuable and visible contributor to the Accounting Department, by fulfilling daily accounting tasks, creating and reviewing monthly corporate financial packages, and collaborating with other accountants. This role reports to the Chief Financial Officer.


Responsibilities:

  • The Controller’s responsibilities include preparing and presenting the monthly, quarterly, and annual corporate financial statements including variance analysis and bank reconciliations.
  • Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results.
  • Coordinating activities of external auditors and tax preparers.
  • Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process.
  • Help to streamline the intercompany reimbursement process.
  • Manage monthly and quarterly distributions to Fund investors.
  • Managing the corporate budget process.
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new processes.
  • Evaluating accounting and internal control systems.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting databases, as needed.
  • Developing and monitoring business performance metrics.
  • Supporting with regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Four-year college degree with a major in business, finance, economics, accounting, engineering or mathematics.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of real estate and/or property management industry with 2+ years of experience.
  • Knowledge of U.S Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) regulations and provisions of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
  • Must have the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines as well as maintaining excellent customer service satisfaction.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic property financial statements including income statements, balance sheet,s and ledgers.
  • Advanced understanding and demonstrated proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, QuickBooks, and accounting systems.
  • Experience with Fund accounting a plus.
  • Experience with RealPage software a plus. 
  • Dependable, punctual, and reliable with a strong work ethic
  • A high degree of responsibility and initiative with the desire to advance beyond this position
