American Realty Advisors (ARA) is one of the largest privately held private equity institutional real estate investment managers in the United States, with over $10 billion in assets under management. ARA invests on behalf of institutional investors through core and value-add real estate funds and separate accounts, targeting industrial, office, multi-family, and retail assets nationwide through direct equity, hybrid debt, mezzanine, and preferred equity structures.


The Role

The Director, Investor Services, leads a team that provides internal marketing and client services operations. This role supports external sales executives and the firm’s senior management by creating a business development strategy to increase the firm’s identity in the marketplace, position it competitively, and promote its products and services. The Director will create and improve the firm’s investment product marketing collateral including, coordination and delivery of information to respond to client, consultant, and other requests for information in support of capital raising and client relations.

This role is a key position reporting directly to ARA’s Head of Business Development and works directly with senior leadership to contribute meaningfully to firm growth. The ideal candidate has proven leadership acumen, strong institutional real estate market and competitor knowledge, and established relationships with consultants and investors.


Essential Functions
  • Manage the overall development of investment management communication collateral including client, consultant, and prospect presentations, reports, product pieces, communications, advertising, and public relations related to the firm’s investment management services.
  • Coordinate the development of sales and marketing collateral, presentations, commentary, graphic elements and ideas, in addition to other marketing materials in support of the firm’s product sales effort.
  • Oversee all Request of Proposal (RFP) and Consultant Questionnaire and data and research communication processes. Create and main accurate and persuasive firm, investment process, and product language for such sales and consultant relations documents, including RFPs, RFIs and DDQs.
  • Contribute to the creation of marketing collateral to support the firm’s capital-raising goals and the development of strategies and tactics to compete for new mandates and participate in communication with consultants and other industry professionals in support of capital-raising efforts.
  • Coordinate consolidating quarterly reports’ data utilizing information received from the Portfolio Management, Asset Management, Investment and Accounting Departments for utilization in the RFP/Database process. Deliver reports under strict deadlines, balancing the need for speed and efficiency with quality analysis and crisp writing that enhances ARA’s institutional brand.
  • Set out clear and achievable objectives quarterly and annually for each team member to establish accountability, performance evaluation, and job growth.
  • Provide ongoing competitor and market research to the Sales Team and senior leadership to capture market information and opportunities impacting new capital opportunities and promote competitive advantages.
  • Participate in new product development, including research, design, positioning, and launch.

Candidate Qualifications

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills
  • Undergraduate degree required, preferably in business administration, finance, or related field. Advanced degree in a related field preferred.
  • At least ten years of experience in the institutional investment industry in a similar capacity, with demonstrated success in leading an institutional product team. Commercial restate/private asset knowledge is critical.
  • Established relationships with investment consultants, competitors, and other industry relationships a plus.
  • Communicate with senior leadership and firm investment professionals regarding ongoing activities and progress toward goals.
  • Willingness to assume accountability for performance, both individually and that of the overall team.
  • Embrace the firm’s goals, philosophy, process, and products, understand the firm’s products and how they are positioned competitively, and understand how the firm operates as an SEC-registered investment advisor and a fiduciary under ERISA.

Job Specifications
  • Expected work hours: 8:30 to 5:30, Monday through Friday with occasional weekends.
  • Travel: Business trips with overnight stays may be required (except when local or national stay-at-home orders or travel restrictions are in effect, as such trips are not permitted). Occasionally may need to drive a personal vehicle for business.
  • Work environment and physical demands: General office environment at ARA’s downtown Los Angeles corporate offices (except when local or national stay-at-home orders are in effect).
