Background:

Haven Realty Capital is a real estate investment firm, located in El Segundo, CA, specializing in single-family and multi-family rental housing across the United States.  Haven was founded in 2010 and was an early entrant into the Single-Family Rental (SFR) industry where it acquired, leased and managed approximately 10,000 rental homes across 7 states on behalf of high-net worth investors, family offices and private equity institutions. 

Haven’s strong performance in the SFR industry has led it into additional housing-related investment strategies such as multifamily, residential land entitlement and development, and manufactured housing. Haven formally entered into the Build2Rent sector in 2019 and now controls over $300 million in Dedicated Rental Community (DRC) projects that are in different phases of construction, acquisition, and lease-up.  Importantly, Haven is targeting $1 billion in DRCs in the next 18-24 months. 

We are seeking an experienced Part-Time Staff Accountant to help our company with accounting and operations. You will work closely with our Controller and assist with the processes and tasks that keep our accounting and operations running smoothly. We have a small team of professionals and work in a multi-entity environment with multiple Joint Venture partners that have various requirements regarding monthly and quarterly reporting. Additionally, we work with a number of tax and financial service firms to ensure proper and accurate reporting on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Process monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting close, including accruals, financial statement preparation, and mortgage lender reporting
  • Prepare account reconciliations and journal entries as needed to support the month-end close
  • Process the monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Prepare intercompany billing invoices, expense reimbursements, and reconciliation
  • Review and process monthly management fees and prepare fee invoices for distribution
  • Prepare fixed asset capitalization entries ensuring accurate fixed asset records reconciling amounts to the general ledger
  • Process payables within the Yardi Payscan system for corporate and property level billing
  • Prepare bad debt allowance entries and review tenant ledgers for accuracy as needed
  • Review investor subscription agreements and maintain accurate member tracking schedules
  • Obtain updated property tax bills from the appropriate county assessor and prepare payment entries
  • Review and distribution of fund K-1’s to investors
  • Assist with year-end annual 1099 reporting
  • Ensure compliance with department policies and procedures
  • Assist with the variance analyses process by working with third-party property managers and accountants to provide accurate fluctuation explanations
  • Gather and compile information as needed for our Joint Venture partners, auditors, and tax preparers
  • Maintain entities in good standing with state jurisdictions and assist with various secretary of state reporting requirements
  • Prepared to accept monthly ad hoc projects which may include, but are not limited to, the compilation of financial reports and the gathering of other financial records
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good time management skills with an ability to meet deadlines
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Accounting degree
  • 1+ years work experience in accounting or finance.
  • Experience working in the real estate industry preferred
  • Competency in Microsoft applications especially Excel
  • Adaptable to utilizing technology and new software platforms as we are a mostly paper-free organization
  • Experience with Yardi Voyager preferred.
  • Clear understanding of GAAP
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Adaptable to changing priorities.
