Description
As a Pre-Construction Manager, you are responsible for developing a project from its conceptual phase through its final design, including managing the bid/estimating process, negotiating prices from suppliers though completion of the bid/estimating effort, and overseeing quantity take-off, pricing, scoping, and bidding of projects. Here are the roles you’ll play:
The People Person
- Maintain existing and develop new client relationships
- Assist the construction team with preparation of RFPs and RFQs
- Cultivate relationships with engineers, vendors, and subcontractors
- Conduct site visits as necessary
- Develop, negotiate, and close new business with existing and new clients via phone, email, or personal visits
- Build relationships within the industry to generate and enhance business opportunities
The Estimator
- Develop conceptual designs and estimates for projects from architectural, general arrangement, or engineering plans
- Fill in design gaps for the completion of estimates
- Ensure estimators have the most current design information for estimate preparation
Your Building Blocks of Success
- Strong 5+ years of experience in estimating and/or project management for a construction, engineering, or consulting company
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field
- Thorough working knowledge and understanding of all project management control systems (scheduling, estimating, cost control, procurement, and business development)
