Our client is an investor, operator and developer based in the Financial District of Boston, with regional offices in Metro New York City and Metro Washington D.C. With a strong track record built over 30+ years, our client’s approximately 50-member team constitutes a robust, vertically integrated platform with expertise in acquisitions, development, asset management and property management. The investment strategy focuses on select residential, industrial, medical office, lab, and mixed-use investments where the firm can create value, provide increased margins of safety, and maximize risk-adjusted returns. The company’s current investment vehicle, Partners Fund IV, is a 650M fund with 10 percent invested at this time and employs a value-add investment strategy in assets that require leasing, repositioning, and development.

Position Overview:
The Assistant Controller will be responsible for preparing financial statements for a fund(s) and its investment entities as well as working with the accounting and portfolio management teams in managing the fund operations. This position will be primarily accountable for the accurate and timely accounting and reporting for their assigned portfolio and will be a key point of contact for all business and other functional teams as it relates to their assigned fund(s).

The ideal candidate must have a strong technical accounting background, be comfortable and confident navigating through new and complex accounting matters, have outstanding communication and writing skills, be attentive to details and deadlines, be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks while working in a team environment, and is looking to grow alongside the firm.

Further, the Assistant Controller will be one of the firm’s primary reviewers of property-level monthly and quarterly financial statements and supporting workpapers. The Assistant Controller will work collaboratively with the firm’s Head of Accounting.

Key Responsibilities:
• Ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of:
   o Monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and/or financial results o Monthly, quarterly, and annual performance returns
   o Quarterly data submission in support of various industry organizations and consultants / clients
   o Client account statements and reporting
• Maintaining workpapers to support the Fund’s performance and operations
• Prepare and maintain fee structure schedule
• Work closely with Investor Relations to manage capital calls and distributions to investors in accordance with the fund agreements • Work closely with Investor relations on due diligence requests
• Review monthly and quarterly property level financial statements and supporting reconciliations and workpapers which may include operating properties and / or development properties
• Interact directly with other members of the Accounting Team, Portfolio Management Team and external auditors
• Support Portfolio Management and the Asset Managers in on-going operational matters
• Assist with internal controls and best practices

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Master’s degree and / or CPA preferred
• Approximately of 5 + years’ professional experience in accounting, preferably with a large public accounting firm with a focus on private real estate clients
• Strong technical accounting background
• Strong command of fund and real estate accounting concepts
• Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) as it relates to fair market value of real estate and fund accounting. • Familiarity with GAAP research tools and the FASB codification
• Knowledge of and experience with REIT structures and taxation
• Effective problem-solving skills and sound judgement
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to function in a team-oriented setting and respond well to constructive criticism
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks with a high attention to detail
• Tenacity toward meeting deadlines, with a strong sense of urgency and good self-management discipline
• Ability to work accurately and efficiently
• Strong ethical character and a sense of humor
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel
