Our client’s unique real estate platform focuses on helping C-level executives with the operation and management of their Real Estate Investment Management business.  Meetings are purposefully designed to be smaller and more intimate, allowing members to freely share their challenges and best practices and partner to find solutions and synergies in a collaborative environment. As the National Association of Real Estate Investment Managers (NAREIM) transforms beyond a thought leadership association, its aim is to inspire their members to embrace the evolution of their REIM business and help them grow with an eye towards innovation and progress. While they are renowned for their research and data expertise (with operational surveys forming the basis of this initiative); they are looking to take a greater role in assisting their member firms with technology, leadership, talent acquisition, and operational advancement.

 

Overview

The CEO is accountable for creating, developing, and driving the overall vision and multi-year strategy for the NAREIM association.  S/he must operate with influence to execute the agenda of the mission and leverage their capabilities to offer a differentiated platform to the industry.

 

The ideal candidate has the ability to think strategically, act tactically, and command credibility and influence. The CEO will be the architect and the operator of NAREIM’s strategic framework and will steer its future with the proven ability to translate the mission into meaningful objectives and outcomesIn partnership with the Board, the CEO will conceptualize and execute all elements of a comprehensive strategic and tactical plan. This role will be supported through a dedicated administrative assistant and intern as well as a team of consultants to deliver on NAREIM’s objectives.

Responsiblities Include:


Strategy

  • Establish and execute a market leading strategic plan and deliver a strong value proposition for members and sponsors.
  • Analyze trends and market disruptors -feed insights into Board for product / platform advancements.
  • Ensure research, analytics, and intelligence draws out NAREIM’S competitive advantage.
  • Collaborate with industry leaders and experts to define tactics and strategies relevant to the platform.
  • Increase awareness of NAREIM and its capabilities; simultaneously drive comprehensive, accretive membership retention strategy.

 Programming

  • Set agendas for monthly meetings in coordination with individual meeting committee including coaching of speakers and moderators.
  • Oversee the logistics of site coordination, registration, and marketing.
  • Deliver meaningful follow up and analysis post meeting.
  • Coordinate production, editing, and design of annual yearbook.
  • Produce two annual surveys with the support of FPL Associates.
  • Solicit articles, editing, production coordination, and marketing of two issues of NAREIM Dialogues every year.
  • Manage with annual design refresh and ongoing updating of content.

 Member Community

  • Provide the visionary leadership that ensures an exceptional member experience.
  • Lead with optimism and enthusiasm which inspires others to greater levels of involvement with NAREIM.
  • Achieve member recruiting and retention targets.
  • Deliver powerful ongoing member communication that illustrates NAREIM’s value proposition.
  • Serve as ambassador for NAREIM at industry events and in the media as needed.

 Business Operations

  • Coordinate Quarterly Board meetings.
  • Issue quarterly financial, recruiting, and meeting planning summaries.
  • Create Annual Plan and Budget.
  • Manage all financials with support of outside accountant; conduct monthly meetings with the Treasurer.
  • Ensure the financial viability of the organization through cycles.
  • Oversee the management of member database.
  • Lead a high performing team of internal and outsourced staff (including IT, Accounting, Audit, Design, Printing, and Photography) who can adapt quickly to changing needs and circumstances and can operate in a culture that highly values inclusion and collaboration.

Qualifications

  • 15 - 20+ years of experience and strong depth of knowledge in Commercial Real Estate; good visibility and influence into the industry with established relationships.
  • Recognized as thought leader and industry expert with experience leading high performing teams.
  • Relevant experience in business development and growing a membership portfolio.
  • Aptitude for understanding and driving technology-based business strategies and related change management.
  • Expert in spotting trends and identifying opportunities to innovate.
  • Proven history of driving effective and efficient processes and protocols to ensure the highest level of productivity.
  • Strong preference is to have the successful candidate living in Chicago. 

 Compensation
