Associate Fund Controller – Real Estate Investment Manager, New York, NY

Firm:

Alcova Capital Management is an alternative asset management firm focused on real estate private credit through direct lending (debt and preferred equity) to middle-market commercial real estate, with a typical investment size of $3-$35MM, across a variety of property types in major U.S. markets.

 

Position:

Seeking an experienced accounting professional suited to an early stage firm to join the team. The Associate Fund Controller will direct and oversee all aspects of the Finance, Accounting and Operational functions of the organization and will work closely with the deal team to manage cash in preparation of real estate closings. The individual will also be working with a fund administrator, real estate servicer, accountant/auditor and legal counterparts.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for accuracy, integrity, timeliness, and consistency of accounting and financial reporting systems
  • Oversee cash management and treasury functions and manage movement of cash between entities and authorization and documentation of transactions
  • Reconcile accounts at the end of each month, quarter and fiscal year
  • Resolve day-to-day finance and accounting issues
  • Develop and drive reporting that provides increased visibility into business performance
  • Work with internal deal team and borrowers/sponsors, including their respective consultants and/or contractors, in servicing the positions
  • Prioritize and work on special projects which add value to the overall organization
  • Interact with existing and prospective investors
  • Create and maintain Excel models for deals and funds, including interest calculations and investment IRR's

 

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of relevant experience. Previous experience in public accounting and fund accounting is preferred 
  • CPA a plus but not required
  • High level of expertise in Excel
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively in a collegial, dynamic and demanding environment
  • High priority placed on cultural fit and references

  • Impeccable integrity
