ValStone Partners (“ValStone”) is a commercial real estate focused private equity firm founded in 1998 with approximately $839 million of AUM.  Since inception, ValStone has managed six closed-end opportunity funds which have invested more than $1 billion primarily in value-add commercial real estate or impaired commercial real estate debt assets diversified across most property types throughout the U.S. 

Job Description

The investment professional will be an integral part of a team dedicated to the investment and asset management functions for ValStone managed funds.  The ValStone investment team is responsible for the sourcing and evaluation of opportunistic equity and debt investments across all property types throughout the United States. 

Responsibilities

  • Source and analyze potential acquisitions, including distressed debt purchases, recapitalizations, joint-venture equity investments and other special situations
  • Build financial models for potential investment opportunities, including cash flow forecast models utilizing Excel and/or Argus
  • Coordinate and manage all phases of the due diligence process, including legal, financial, credit, business and physical reviews as well as working with brokers and other industry partners to acquire market insights
  • Draft investment memos and participate in the presentation of investment recommendations to the ValStone Investment Committee
  • Develop strategies to maximize value through knowledge of real estate markets and value-add initiatives 
  • Understand the commercial real estate industry, including demographic and economic conditions as well as capital market and leasing trends
  • Develop relationships with brokers, joint-venture partners, consultants and other industry contacts

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree - concentration in finance and/or real estate preferred
  • 2 years of relevant work experience - banking or principal investing in the real estate sector preferred

Skills & Competencies

  • Advanced analytical skills are required, including an in-depth understanding of financial modeling
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications - experience with Argus applications preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work efficiently and multi-task in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment
  • Intellectual curiosity, entrepreneurially driven and take-ownership mentality
