Company Overview

We are a stealth-mode early stage real estate investment and technology company focused on creating a new form of neighborhood-centric real estate investment that realigns interests between stakeholders to drive long-term, triple bottom line outcomes in communities across North America.

Functionally, the company will operate as a real estate investment sponsor, asset manager, property management company, and non-real estate service provider.

The company is backed by top-tier venture and strategic investors and will be launching a beta product in early 2019.

This organization is a startup, and the right candidate - although well-qualified to execute the responsibilities of the position - will also help the team meet unexpected challenges as they arise.  In this context, the ideal candidate will be a self-starter eager to define best practices across the portfolio of responsibilities outlined below.

The Position

The Chief Financial Officer will be a key member of the senior leadership team and will have a broad portfolio of responsibilities around financial planning, investment analysis and transactional leadership, accounting and financial reporting, record keeping, and administrative functions of the organization.

These responsibilities will initially include hiring up to three (3) direct reports and collaborating with company principals to design and build the financial and administrative systems of the organization.

Responsibilities include management and day-to-day oversight of the following areas:

Accounting and Audit

• Prepare and review monthly and quarterly asset level financial statements and coordinate with senior management and external consultants on the preparation of consolidated financial statements and investor/stakeholder reporting, which will include SEC reporting.
• Accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Cash management and reconciliations.
• Treasury and banking.
• Be the primary point of contact for the company’s external auditors and provide timely and accurate information in support of this process.
• Collaborate with senior management and other stakeholders to prepare annual asset level operating budgets, capital improvement plans, and other FP&A activities.
• Financial analysis and ad hoc reporting as directed.

Investment Analysis and Transactional Execution

• Lead investment underwriting and due diligence including market analysis, comparable asset analysis, investment modeling, and preparation of investment memoranda for presentation to the investment committee.

Administration

• Oversee Human Resource (HR) functions and supervise third party service providers in the HR area.
• Oversee insurance program (in collaboration with third-party consultants and brokers), including GL, Property Insurance, D&O, and other types of coverage as required.
• Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations with respect to licensure, permitting.
• Day-to-day management of the office.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience between Big 4 Accounting and REIT industry.
• Experience with real estate property and investment management required.
• CPA required.
• MBA or CFA designation a plus.
• Interest in impact investing, socially beneficial investing a plus.
