The newest HR offering “Me Time,” days off to help employees thrive or at least reduce stress and restore energy, should not be confused with Personal Days where you go to the dentist etc. Think instead of them as “Mastery Experiences” that challenge people to take a day to learn something new. Charlotte Fritz, an associate professor at Portland State University told the WSJ they improve mood, which can spark creativity and even better customer service. However, SelectLeaders Job Network 2015 Hiring Trends Survey reported: “67% of real estate industry respondents did not use ALL of their allotted vacation time.” So is Me Time really a benefit? Sue LaMotte, CEO of exaqueo Inc. believes, “Special days for Me Time wouldn’t be necessary if leaders eased demands on workers and stopped emailing them on vacation or deeming all projects a high priority.” Ouch!
