Synergy, a leading Boston commercial real estate firm, with a managed portfolio of over 7 million square feet, across multiple asset classes, is experiencing exciting growth and is seeking a multi-dimensional candidate to join our Corporate Accounting and Finance team. The candidate will report directly to the Corporate Controller. The successful candidate will take ownership of several processes within the team to deliver ongoing reporting and actionable insights to key internal and external stakeholders of Synergy. This role is ideal for someone early in their career, seeking Real Estate industry knowledge and looking for a challenging, fast-paced environment. The title for this role is commensurate with experience.

 

The Corporate Accounting and Finance team serves a wide-ranging group of stakeholders, including all aspects of the CEO’s Family Office. The candidate will interface with Synergy’s Asset Management, Property Accounting, Leasing, Construction, and Property Management divisions on a weekly basis. In addition to servicing ad-hoc requests from these groups, the candidate will be responsible for performing accounting, financial analysis and supplementary reporting for the Management Company and all related entities, including Synergy’s private lending and Hospitality ventures. The individual will work collaboratively to meet Synergy’s goals and objectives while adhering to the policies, procedures, and audit requirements that ensure continued growth and success.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare construction requisition loan draw packages monthly with the Corporate Controller and Construction team on behalf of Synergy’s CRE assets to draw on construction loan facilities exceeding $100M. Interface with lenders as needed to ensure budget compliance and adequate tracking.
  • Interface with Asset Management and the SVP of Finance to assist in preparing asset specific cash flow models; ultimately bridging GAAP financial reporting to a cash-basis analysis for key stakeholders.
  • Prepare Proforma P&L reporting for the Management Company and present Dashboard reports to the CEO, CFO and COO.
  • Prepare divisional overhead reporting packages for all VPs across Synergy’s internal business divisions; ensuring compliance with the corporate budget and highlighting variances to plan as needed.
  • Assist the Corporate Team with Capital Allocation planning and liquidity analysis on behalf of the Family Office function.
  • Work with the Corporate Accounting team in preparing and presenting Synergy’s monthly, quarterly, and annual Financial Statements.
  • Assist Corporate Accounting team with all revenue transactions as part of the monthly close process and ensure compliance with asset specific Management Agreements.
  • Play a key role in the annual preparation and presentation of the Corporate Budget to Synergy leadership.
  • Work with the CFO and Corporate Team in implementing and maintaining effective internal controls surrounding Accounting Information Systems, Cybersecurity, and I.T. Procurement.
  • Assist Corporate Controller in accounts receivable management and collections efforts monthly.
  • Assist with entity structuring, compliance, insurance, and treasury related transaction work on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Assist Corporate Controller and CFO in executing on annual Tax Program compliance for Synergy’s portfolio.
  • Gain exposure to ad-hoc Hospitality projects in assisting the Corporate Team with all Restaurant Accounting functions within Synergy’s portfolio.
  • Perform other assigned duties and complete ad hoc projects, as required.
  • We provide on-the-job training through one-on-one task specific instruction.

QUALIFICATIONS


What we’re looking for in you:

  • Degree in Accounting or Finance (4 Year)
  • A solid understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and debits & credits
  • 1-4 years of accounting, audit, tax, or FP&A experience
  • Working knowledge of project accounting preferred
  • Partnership taxation experience a plus
  • Prior Yardi, QuickBooks and MRI experience preferred
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Excel
  • Ability to create MS Excel-based reporting or models for new business ventures or Asset specific needs
  • Experience reviewing other peers work and packaging deliverables to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate effectively with superiors, peers and vendors, as well as clients and other related parties
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities, while meeting deadlines
  • Quick study with the willingness to learn new systems and the eagerness to grow with the company
  • High degree of personal integrity and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment while maintaining confidentiality
  • A strong positive attitude, demonstrating the professionalism and flexibility needed to attain Company goals
