Florida is a U.S. state located in the southeastern region of the United States, with much of its peninsula surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. Florida is the fourth most populous state in the U.S. It is bordered on the north by the states of Georgia and Alabama, and is particularly close to a number of Caribbean countries, particularly the Bahamas and Cuba: as a result, a significant Cuban, Hispanic population has settled in Florida, especially in the Miami area. Most of Florida has a humid, subtropical climate; southern Florida has a tropical climate. Named by Juan Ponce de León, legendary discoverer of the “Fountain of Youth,” who landed on the peninsula on April 2, 1513, the state’s climate is a magnet for “Snow-Birds” and seniors, and the corresponding real estate developments, retail, hospitality, and medical amenities.
