Job Description
H.I.G. Capital is looking to hire Associates for Bayside Capital’s Distressed Real Estate strategy in New York with a focus on commercial real estate debt and debt securities. Bayside Capital, H.I.G. Capital’s special situations platform, seeks to make long-term, value-oriented investments in stressed / distressed middle-market companies through both secondary debt purchases and the provision of new debt or equity capital (via bankruptcy or out-of-court). This role is for an immediate start.
The firm’s track record spans nearly a quarter century back to 1993 and today, H.I.G. remains one of the most active funds in terms of deal activity in the industry.
Responsibilities
The H.I.G. Associate program spans two-years with high performing individuals often receiving the opportunity to stay longer. Associates generally take a central role in supporting the evaluation, structuring and negotiation of our transactions, as well as in the monitoring of our investments. Our Associates work with small deal teams in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment and have meaningful interaction with senior members of the firm. Associates are responsible for:
· Evaluating potential investment opportunities with a focus on:
o Detailed property, market and borrower due diligence including on-site due diligence
o Modeling and valuation of potential investment opportunities.
o Understanding key credit documentation and deal terms.
o Preparing detailed investment committee memoranda.
· Managing existing investments including:
o Tracking business plan execution and compliance with documentation
o Performing periodic site inspections
o Interacting with borrowers, co-lenders, property managers, and counsel and providing updates to senior management
Qualifications
· 1-3 years of commercial real estate underwriting, lending, investing or investment banking experience.
· Strong analytical and financial modeling skills. Experience using real estate specific software such as Argus and/or CoStar is a plus, but not required
· Ability to take initiative, work autonomously, and spearhead projects in an entrepreneurial environment.
· Outstanding interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
· Superior academic achievement at a top tier undergraduate program is required
