The Role
We are looking for a Development Associate to assist DPRE’s senior level development staff with planning, administering, and managing all aspects of the development cycle in conformance with established business plans for a multitude of institutional commercial real estate development projects.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily activities related to:
- Due diligence for new development acquisitions
- Planning, design, entitlements and permits
- Pre-construction, construction & project close-out
- Leasing activities, such as new tenant pursuits and tenant improvements
- Turnover of the project to asset & property management teams as well as project disposition support, when applicable
- Project documentation including preparing and distributing regular reports to internal and external stakeholders
- Successfully manage multiple projects concurrently at varying stages of development while meeting or exceeding deadlines and maximizing value to investors
- Continuously improve development operations, systems, procedures, tools, relationships, and organizational expertise
- Cultivate, maintain, and leverage relationships with tenants, brokers, capital partners, landowners, buyers, governmental and regulatory authorities, contractors, architects, engineers, and consultants
- Assist with sourcing, underwriting, and acquiring new commercial real estate development opportunities
- Actively participate in real estate organizations such as NAIOP, CCIM, CREW, SIOR, CoreNET, and/or ULI
- 3 to 5 years of experience working in real estate development and/or ground-up construction management
- Bachelor's or master’s degree in real estate, construction management, architecture, civil engineering, finance, urban planning, or related course of study with a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA. MRED graduates or candidates preferred, especially if candidate’s background is in construction
- Generalist, manager-type who has experience in and is excited by executing a real estate development plan
- Can lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams with a positive and solutions-oriented attitude
- Enjoys oscillating between the big picture and the technical details
- Has an insatiable appetite to learn and is excited by constant improvement of organization systems, tracking, follow through, and time management
- Able to remain composed in high-stakes, high-pressure situations with a multitude of strong personalities with sometimes competing interests
- Takes radical responsibility for the outcome of the mission including responsibility for the outcomes produced by others
- Loves to solve problems, especially before they arise and is comfortable making decisions without complete information
- Can switch between analytical, technical, and creative mindsets
- Superior ability to get answers to questions via research and through reliance on experts
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient with MS Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Bluebeam, Google Suite, Google Earth, and On-Screen Take-off. ARGUS and Yardi are a plus.
