Structured Credit Portfolio Manager

Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Sabal Investment Management is looking an experienced structured credit professional to join the investment team in Irvine or New York to assist with the investment, surveillance, and reporting activities of its Agency and CMBS portfolio and assist with the growth of the invested portfolio.  This individual will work directly with the firm’s management team and report to the Chief Investment Officer. The ideal candidate will be someone who is looking to expand their career at a well capitalized entrepreneurial investment management firm.  The successful individual will bring a strong, thoughtful work ethic to the group with particular emphasis:

• Sourcing, evaluating and recommending new investment opportunities, monitoring and reviewing existing credit exposures, recommending and executing trades, and assisting with our operations, client management and marketing groups in their roles with respect to the portfolio
• Build and maintain strong business relationships with investment banks, brokerage firms, issuers, lenders and rating agencies, etc.
• Identify opportunities to grow and expand the portfolio while achieving investment objectives.
• Oversee the review of transaction documents to understand key attributes related to payment waterfall, reserve accounts, asset dispositions, performance triggers, and rights and authorities of key parties. Maintain knowledge of market terms and pricing to support efficient comparisons and negotiation of deal terms
• Direct credit surveillance of existing investments and relevant industry exposures, including reviewing investor reports and third party research, following news and developments, and interacting with internal/external subject matter experts.  Assist with the refinement of best practices.
• Participate in issuer, servicer, and manager meetings/calls to maintain knowledge of market developments and industry practices. Conduct high frequency monitoring of lessee, operator, guarantor, and manager news and industry developments.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
6 years of Structured Credit experience with extensive CMBS and Agency market experience.

• A bachelor’s degree is required; an MBA and/or CFA is preferred
• A strong working knowledge of Structured Credit Markets, real estate markets, asset characteristics, market analysis, and asset-level analysis for major property types. 
• Strong analytical abilities and exceptional work ethic and commitment to excellence
• Ability to communicate ideas (written and verbally) clearly and concisely
• Ability to work independently and responsibly with little supervision and instruction, but also work well in a team-oriented environment
• Strong attention to detail 
• Desire to work as part of a small, highly-entrepreneurial team

Preferred:

• Knowledge and experience with mortgage securitization process, structures and mechanics
• Experience in commercial mortgage finance, real estate and/or development
• Commercial Real Estate Property knowledge and expertise.
