CoStar Group is seeking a Chief Economist to join our growing residential Homes.com division. Homes.com is an industry leading consumer online marketplace connecting agents, buyers and sellers. With the combination of Homes.com and Homesnap, a leading digital residential real estate solutions provider, we are building a platform that offers a more collaborative online home sale and purchase experience.
The Chief Economist is responsible for developing and implementing data-driven thought leadership and preparing analysis and commentary focused on the US housing market. The Chief Economist will play a key role as CoStar Group's industry-facing representative for the Homes.com brand and be responsible for delivering CoStar Group's view and outlook of the housing market. The ideal candidate possesses extensive housing market expertise with the quantitative and qualitative abilities to craft and communicate a sophisticated house view of the themes relevant to the sector, both nationally and at the regional level. The individual will have in-depth knowledge of factors impacting supply and demand fundamentals.
The position will be based in Atlanta, Georgia. This senior-level role will report to CoStar Group's Marketplaces Vice President of Marketing.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop a national house view of the housing market and ensure that such a view is accurately delivered to and throughout the CoStar Group team
- Communicate CoStar Group's view of the housing market to national and regional media outlets through interviews, TV appearances, and news article collaborations
- Establish and drive the vision and strategy for real estate data analytics specific to the housing market to advance the quality of the company's applied data analysis platform
- Cultivate continuous innovation of CoStar Group's applied data deliverables by creating new quantitative analytic content and data visualizations to communicate housing-specific trends
- Serve as CoStar Group's subject matter expert on all housing themes, trends, and topics
- Create national housing market report content for CoStar Group's analytic platform
- Write and deliver monthly content for CoStar Group's national housing video updates
- Present to CoStar Group's existing and prospective clients
- Represent CoStar Group at US housing market industry events and conferences
- Compose regular news articles highlighting US housing market trends
- Contribute to the design and development of the CoStar housing product
- Contribute to CoStar Group's Quantitative Analytics work in housing forecasts, valuations, and analytics
QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced degree in economics, urban planning, real estate, or related field
- Ten or more years of housing market research experience
- Proven record of producing high-quality analysis of trends throughout the housing market, including mortgage financing and demographics
- Proven record of engaging effectively with various media outlets through interviews, TV appearances, and written commentary on the housing market
- Deep knowledge of the US housing market, its players, and its data sources
- Broad knowledge of major US regional housing markets
- Proven ability to aggregate large and complex sets of data utilizing SQL or Excel, as well as some other data visualization tools such as PPT, Power BI and QGIS, to arrive at meaningful and unique insights
- Strong analytical and writing skills
- Effective and engaging presentation skills
- Comfortable operating in an in-person fast-paced environment
