Trinity Church Wall Street has been an integral part of New York City’s history for more than 300 years. More than 1200 members come from New York City and surrounding areas to form a racially, ethnically, and economically diverse congregation. Trinity Church and St. Paul’s Chapel are the cornerstones of the parish’s community life, worship, and mission and welcome more than three million visitors and pilgrims from around the world every year. Worship is at the center of parish life, with 20 services offered every week, many of which are streamed online and viewed by hundreds of thousands worldwide.

 

ROLE SUMMARY
The Chief Infrastructure Officer reports to the Chief Operating Officer and oversees and supervises five operational departments: Facilities Management, Safety and Security, Building Operations, Cemetery and the Retreat Center for Trinity Operations and Hospitality functions. The Chief Infrastructure Officer proactively monitors and analyzes potential opportunities and risks to Trinity’s property, grounds, and strategic priorities, develops solutions, and creates appropriate action plans to realize opportunities and mitigate risks brought on by change and growth. The Chief Infrastructure Officer establishes policies and strategies to ensure that all capital projects meet regulatory compliance and that all preventative maintenance and restoration continue to improve the preservation and restoration of Trinity’s facilities and grounds.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and administer facilities operations and development through engineering, environmental and regulatory compliance programs, construction management, and facilities maintenance programs to enhance Trinity’s physical spaces, including several which are historic landmarks.
  • Oversee operational performance of Trinity’s Manhattan campus (Trinity Church, St. Paul’s Chapel, Cemetery, and 76 Trinity Place), the Retreat Center (CT), and Church Divinity School of the Pacific (CA) properties, reporting to governance, the COO, and other senior management to ensure quality, scope, and scale of services are aligned with long- and short-term strategic and functional objectives.
  • Lead the outline, development, and management of capital projects including managing project-based and long-term contracts and vendor relationships and manage and report on vendor relationships and vendor performance against contract terms.
  • Oversee physical infrastructure for all of Trinity and its subsidiary entities; create and advance a long-term preventative maintenance program incorporating a systematic approach to the preservation and restoration of Trinity’s buildings and grounds.
  • Manage the full strategic sourcing life cycle from defining scope and identifying requirements to vendor evaluation and negotiation and management of vendor contracts.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to promote comprehensive planning and policy implementation for the safe and efficient operation of Trinity campus properties and services.
  • Drive the strategy for effective planning and scheduling of critical maintenance to achieve timely completion.
  • Continually evaluate facilities process inefficiencies and implement improvement measures to minimize defects and increase utilization. 
  • Together with the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer, develop capital planning for Trinity and its subsidiaries.
  • Act as staff lead for Mission Properties Committee meetings and coordinate agendas and reports with Chair, COO, and Rector’s office.
  • Oversee the safety and security of Trinity’s property and grounds and physical safety of Trinity’s people and property.
  • Direct and oversee Safety and Security Team and associated security contracts to assure all properties have appropriate security presence and emergency procedures.
  • Oversee the building management contract for 76 Trinity Place and attend to corporate and non-profit tenants, from building out floors to ongoing maintenance and accounting processes; manage 18th floor amenity space for Trinity and tenants and ground floor café.
  • Conduct periodic quality checks to ensure that operations policies and procedures are practiced and current.
  • Adhere to confidentiality rules and all other Trinity Wall Street policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Perform all duties in a manner that promote Trinity’s mission and core values.
  • Assume other related responsibilities and special projects as required.

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE
Professional and Personal Requirements
The successful candidate will bring many of the following personal qualities and professional qualifications:

  • Minimum of 15+ years of real estate operations related experience, with at least 10 years in a senior leadership role managing staff of more than 50 people.
  • 10+ years of experience serving in progressive senior level facilities and/or construction related operations roles, including strategic oversight of mission-oriented, historic high-profile projects.
  • Technically adept in all aspects of facility planning, design, construction management and operations of indoor and outdoor facilities, mechanical, plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems.
  • Experience managing facilities for a multisite geographically distributed organization.
  • Self-aware, respectful, and inclusive with a demonstrated track record of leading productive teams.
  • Experience working in an organization where the environmental, health and safety systems platform is fully integrated into daily operations. Working with an organization that maintains comprehensive security systems designed to protect physical assets is a must.
  • Demonstrated success building and managing high-performing teams toward ambitious outcomes.
  • Ability to recruit, train, and develop strong teams as well as creating training programs to meet individual and organizational goals to accommodate growth and alignment with the mission.
  • A track record of participating in mission-oriented initiatives including but not limited to education, housing, food insecurity, social justice as well as health and wellness. Direct experience utilizing an organization’s real estate assets to “house” these initiatives is a plus.
  • Engaging interpersonal skills with the gravitas and communication style required to effectively represent Trinity Church Wall Street in the community.
  • Collaborative style and highly motivated by the prospect of joining an organization where a continuous improvement culture is embraced.
  • Comprehensive experience overseeing the architectural planning and renovation/repair of historic real estate buildings and properties.
  • Well versed in all architectural design and construction processes and be able to coordinate a team of professionals with different disciplines to achieve best-in-class results.
  • Experience managing interior office “fit out” to meet the needs of occupants.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required. Demonstrated leadership skills in building and fostering a team environment required.
  • Comfort in a complex urban work environment.
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks while facilitating effective outcomes in a large and complex organization.
  • Strong project management skills essential, Project Management Certification a plus.
  • Must be computer literate with working knowledge of standard software including, but not limited to: Microsoft Office Suite, ticketing system software and project management software, etc. 
  • Knowledge of strategic and fiscal planning, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce successful work outcomes using a high degree of creativity.
  • Comfortable working in an environment guided by the teachings and principles of the Episcopal Church.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, business, or other related field; Master’s degree preferred.
