Proptech Associate

Job Description

Position Summary
Starwood is seeking an experienced investment professional with knowledge of technology and real estate to join our Proptech business as an Associate. In this role, the Associate will focus on making strategic investments in Proptech companies with innovative products that can create value and enhance operational efficiency across the Starwood platform. The Associate will have the opportunity to help build Starwood’s growing Proptech initiative and have access across the Firm’s business lines. The position will be based in New York City. Responsibilities include:

• Developing investment ideas and originate, conduct research and due diligence on prospective Proptech investment opportunities;
• Assisting in managing the structuring, pricing and negotiations of investment transactions and present investment recommendations;
• Preparing financial models and internal investment committee materials;
• Monitoring portfolio company investments and provide strategic support to their management teams;
• Evaluating Proptech companies that have strong synergies with Starwood’s portfolio;
• Creating forums for Proptech companies to pitch to businesses across Starwood for evaluation;
• Driving trials and adoption of Proptech across the Starwood platform;
• Enhancing current business relationships and develop new relationships within the Proptech ecosystem.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

• Passionate about real estate and technology, and the potential applications of Proptech to position real estate assets and operations for the future;
• 3-4 years of experience in an analytically rigorous role in venture capital, private equity, investment banking or consulting;
• Superior analytical, quantitative and problem solving skills with exceptional attention to detail;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Ability to manage and effectively present information;
• Collaborative nature with a team-first approach;
• Intellectually curious, creative, and a self-starter with proven ability to multi-task;
• Strong judgment and decision making skills;
• Bachelor’s degree required.
