Job Description

Position Summary

The candidate will support the Acquisitions team in all areas related to investment and capital markets activities, and will be based in New York City.  Most notably, the candidate will perform underwriting, due diligence, and execution processes for (1) the acquisition and disposition of commercial properties, and (2) the origination and purchase of whole loans, mezzanine loans and preferred equity.  The areas of focus will primarily be in office, multifamily, and mixed-use assets located in the major coastal markets of New York, Boston, South Florida, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, as well as select other markets in Texas and the Southeast. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Day to day responsibilities include all aspects of underwriting, due diligence, creating and using complex financial models, reviewing legal documents and managing the investment process.
  • Preparation of ARGUS and Excel models to support valuation and structuring strategies.
  • Conduct market research including phone calls to brokers and other market participants.
  • Coordinate with both internal departments and third parties to obtain, process and analyze the information necessary to underwrite and diligence the deal and close multiple transactions simultaneously.
  • Work with all members of the Acquisitions Team and have significant interaction with the Senior Management Members.
  • Serves as an all-encompassing dynamic experience in real estate underwriting, providing the analyst with the opportunity to work on both the acquisition and debt origination roles, thus creating a platform for a successful career in the industry.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree required with a demonstrated interest in Real Estate; Master’s in Real Estate or MBA is a plus.
  • 1-4 years of work experience (preferably real estate investment banking or private equity, but not required).
  • Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office Skills.
  • Previous experience with Argus a plus, though not required.
  • An understanding of debt structures, including both senior and mezzanine positions.
  • Skilled critical thinking and analytical abilities to reasonably anticipate the needs of those whom the Analyst supports.
  • Strong understanding of IRR, NPV and other calculations required. Ability to perform discounted cash flow analysis and understand the drive and results required. Understanding of standard financial statement and components of credit analysis.
  • Outstanding time management skills to meet multiple deadlines.             
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrate the ability to write various types of reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
