The Assistant Portfolio Manager for the Affiliated Insurance Company (AIC) is a dynamic and integral role in the MetLife Investment Management (MIM) Real Estate group. The Assistant Portfolio Manager will oversee key aspects of portfolio management of MetLife’s approximately $50 billion AIC commercial mortgage portfolio. The Assistant Portfolio Manager will work closely with several constituents, including AIC leadership, MetLife Real Estate leadership, teams across real estate and Legal. From time to time, the Assistant Portfolio Manager will also spearhead special projects for senior management. The role is suited for candidates that seek strategic portfolio management experience and indirect transaction experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Portfolio Management:
- Partner with Portfolio Manager in advising client of market trends, transactional activity, and critical portfolio updates.
- Independently manage quarterly review process. Determine special topics with client and develop presentations with portfolio manager. Present during quarterly reviews.
- Lead bi-weekly meetings with client, including setting agenda and managing follow ups.
- Attend DSG investment committee for AIC transactions to build investment acumen.
- Independently manage process for Investment Committee Board of Directors specific notifications of large transactions. Collaborate with regions, Legal and Debt Strategies Group (DSG).
- Partner with portfolio manager, Legal and other teams in development of new products for AIC.
- Manage AIC secondary sales as interest arises.
- Partner with Legal, Finance, IT, and regions in transition of existing LIBOR loans to SOFR replacement index.
Surveillance Efforts:
- Compile Surveillance materials for senior leadership meetings. Present to senior leadership.
- Partner with head of surveillance and regions in workout situations.
- Track and monitor repayment of COVID modifications. Track any new COVID modifications.
- Partner with RR&A on CECL reserves; prepare memos as needed.
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills
Required:
- Ability to lead discussions with client; Aptitude to collaborate with others.
- Strong communications skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent presentation skills
- Ability to serve as delegate for manager, at times.
- Strong attention to detail; Ability to act with a sense of urgency.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Developing investment skills to discuss investment thesis with clients.
- Strong excel /PPT skills to coordinate presentations.
- Excellent project management skills.
Preferred:
- 6+ years of real estate experience.
- Degree preferred: Master’s in real estate or Business Administration.
