Job Summary:

The Vice President will be responsible for the management of a portfolio of assets which are part of Starwood Property Trust’s $17Bn pool of structured First Mortgage, Mezzanine and Preferred Equity positions.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the performance of assigned portfolio of assets for potential adverse credit issues and to assess progress against original underwriting/business plan. This includes staying in regular contact with the sponsors, reviewing/analyzing property financials, staying abreast of national, regional, and local market dynamics and identifying any potential areas of risk.
  • Underwrite assets and provide property performance updates to Starwood executive management team on a quarterly basis.
  • Analyze and provide recommendations for property transactional matters requiring Starwood’s approval. This will include, among other items, loan funding requests, property transactional matters (leasing, capital improvements, management, construction activity, etc.) and any deviation from original business plan which may necessitate a loan modification.
  • Develop positive working relationships with both internal and external counterparties, with particular emphasis on maintaining positive client interactions.   
  • Work closely with internal and external legal counsel on issues arising from the management of the portfolio. The ideal candidate should also possess the ability to independently review loan documents and analyze the provisions therein.
  • Maintain company databases/systems to ensure that data is accurate and up to date. This includes maintaining loan funding and repayments projections which are well thought out and complete.
  • Mentor junior staff by helping to develop their skill level and overall performance.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks with multiple people. Self-starter and self-motivated.
  • Team player, collaborative, strong relationship building skills.
  • Strong sense of urgency and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Prior financials analysis/modeling experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in real estate, finance, business administration or other analytical field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years related work experience.
