The Senior Housing Finance Group (SHF) is a specialty lending division within Wells Fargo’s Commercial Real Estate lending platform that provides financial products and services to leading seniors housing and medical-office developers and owners throughout the US. The SHF team is located across the US with hub offices in Charlotte, NC and Washington, DC. Target customers include a combination of larger, well-established private owner/operators in most cases teaming with larger institutional capital partners (Private-Equity firms, Healthcare REITs, large family offices) focused on the Healthcare CRE sector. Our underwriting approach focuses on People/Credit/Real Estate.  Lending activities range from construction loans on larger single-asset transactions to bridge or mini-permanent financing used to acquire or recapitalize transactions to larger intermediate-term pool financings of seniors housing/medical-office asset pools. SHF is additionally charged with maintaining a close working relationship with Wells Fargo’s seniors housing lending team focused on agency lending to deliver coordinated long-term debt solutions.

The Associate role is a Charlotte, NC-based position in SHF capable of handling all aspects of support for both client management and portfolio management responsibilities to ensure timely and responsible management of SHF’s responsibilities in serving SHF’s clients and pursuing SHF’s prospects.

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Involvement with Relationship Managers in handling responsibilities for an assigned loan portfolio to include timely management of grade change, ART submittals, covenant monitoring, financial statement tracking, site visits and post-close contingency/obligation satisfaction accountabilities.

  • Coordination with Relationship Managers and loan operations/other support partners in managing and approving loan draws on an assigned loan portfolio in line with bank policy, loan document and SHF requirements.

  • Involvement with Relationship Management with the timely completion of select client Annual Financial Reviews (AFRs) in adherence to CRE policy requirements on an assigned portfolio.

  • Relationship Management aid for coordinating the completion of quarterly updates in the PRT system for select loans in line with CRE requirements. Some CRE India support.

  • Serve as a point person for presenting updates to management in quarterly portfolio reviews for select loans/relationships.

  • Involvement with Relationship Management for tracking relationship exposure as well as fielding requests from various LOB coverage, portfolio management and credit teams as needed for exposure or asset performance updates for select relationships/loans.   

  • Aid Relationship Management as a source for data creation/delivery during RAR or other regulatory entity audits for an assigned portfolio.

  • Involvement as needed with Relationship Management in new business pursuits (recommendation memo, credit approval, term sheet negotiation, closing) for an assigned portfolio working with the underwriting and analyst team for support.

  • Coordination with Relationship Management and Treasury Management and Control in aiding all communication, onboarding/offboarding, periodic review, fraud, remediation, redress, pricing, DACA, overdraft monitoring, wire/ACH limits and other approvals for deposit accounts, Purchasing Card or Treasury Management services related to assigned relationships.

  • Work with Relationship Management and CRE support teams in problem-solving any insurance, letter-of-credit, contractor dispute, property lien, etc. issues for an assigned portfolio.

  • Work with primary Relationship Management to serve as a first line-of-defense in identifying “red flags” related to sponsor or asset issues on an assigned portfolio to include timely notification to management and legal protection of rights.

  • Periodic involvement in communication with syndicate bank representatives as needed for approval, funding and information-reporting on any assigned syndicated facilities.

  • Responsibility for mentoring and coaching analysts to ensure both task completion and skill development/understanding.

  • Aid in discovery and timely communication of new WFB business opportunities and market intelligence garnered through client discussions, financial statement reviews, etc.

  • Active involvement in select seniors housing and medical-office industry groups with an orientation towards developing industry knowledge.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of CRE relationship management/asset level management experience


Desired Qualifications:

  • Commercial real estate underwriting experience

  • Some experience developing and cultivating professional relationships

  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills

  • Demonstrated verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to interact with all levels of an organization

  • Ability to work and think independently with moderate coaching demonstrating sound judgment in the application of analytical conclusions to credit approval, structure, and management recommendations

  • Ability to actively aid in the successful completion of complex transactions

  • Ability to interact with integrity and a high level of professionalism with all levels of customers, team members and management

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and across all organizational levels, where flexibility, collaboration, and adaptability are important

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including high level of proficiency in modeling

  • Knowledge and understanding of seniors housing and/or medical-office specific commercial real estate lending for large institutional clients

  • A BS/BA Degree or higher in accounting, finance, real estate, or other applicable degree
