JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to lead the implementation of energy and sustainability initiatives for a large Texas-based healthcare client with 25+ hospitals and a total portfolio of 300+ properties in north and central Texas.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Energy and Water Efficiency
Develop energy management & sustainability strategy for clients' real estate portfolio.
Lead identification and prioritization of energy capital projects, operational changes and physical plant upgrades, resulting in reduced energy consumption (may include HVAC, lighting, building envelope, demand response and controls, plug loads, distributed generation, employee engagement, and evaluating new technologies and services).
Engage FM team to identify and develop energy projects. Responsible for formalizing scope, obtaining quotes, evaluating financial viability, performing project savings analysis, budgeting and obtaining project approval.
Collaborate with the on-site teams on the implementation and management of energy and sustainability projects in a timely and accurate fashion.
Report clear and concise metrics on various energy and sustainability activities (cost savings, CO2, water, etc.), and achievements monthly or as requested by client.
Provide energy and sustainability related inputs to preventative maintenance and engineering teams.
Communicate plans and progress to all levels of staff through presentations and meetings.
Initiate water efficiency and waste management programs and develop plans to roll out to portfolio.
Emissions & Decarbonization
Support client's 1st gen GHG emissions baseline inventory project (scopes 1 and 2).
Build an environmental sustainability roadmap and make recommendations to client on emissions-reduction goals, rollout and next steps. Drive client's ambition to decarbonize by bringing forward strategies and solutions around electrification, renewable energy, electric vehicle infrastructure etc.
Secure approvals for a comprehensive decarbonization program at the highest levels of client leadership and oversee rollout of the program across client portfolio.
Utility Cost Management
Oversee the development of utilities budgets. Provide commentary for budget variances and exceptions.
Provide forecasts of utility expenses throughout the portfolio.
Coordinate energy procurement and renewable energy purchasing activities as needed.
Data Analytics
Manage energy benchmarking in Energy Star and other healthcare benchmarks.
Analyze energy and water consumption metrics to identify opportunities and create plans to sustain energy savings.
Develop and present monthly energy reports on energy use, water use, waste diversion rates and spending trends.
Understand and calculate building energy consumption profiles.
Other Responsibilities and Skills Necessary for Success
Has a detailed knowledge of energy consuming building systems, energy and water efficiency in hospitals and healthcare environments, healthcare compliance, industry standards for measurement & verification of energy savings.
Strong people and communication skills required. The candidate should be able to work with the client, FM leadership and facility operations team members to communicate value, progress and to mentor as needed.
The candidate should be a self-starter and have the ability to drive the conversation with innovative solutions and programs.
Strong computer skills including proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint, online software platforms, with the ability to use spreadsheets and data analysis applications.
Ability to multi-task and effectively organize responsibilities. Strong program management and leadership skills.
Advanced, in-depth knowledge of sustainability and energy principles and concepts, particularly related to the built environment.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year College or university. Minimum of five years of related experience and/or training. Minimum of four years of managerial experience preferred.
CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES
CEM and LEED accreditation preferred. Training and accreditation part of development and performance management requirements.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and analytical skills. Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to customers. Ability to effectively present information.
Ability to respond effectively to sensitive issues.
FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE
Requires advanced knowledge of financial terms and principles. Ability to calculate intermediate figures such as percentages, discounts, and commissions. Conducts advanced financial analysis.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to solve problems involving several options in situations. Requires advanced analytical and quantitative skills.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
Carbon footprint reporting experience or training preferred. Training and accreditation part of development and performance management requirements.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
Decisions made with thorough understanding of procedures, company policies, and business practices to achieve general results and deadlines. Responsible for setting work unit and/or project deadlines. Errors in judgment may cause short-term impact to department.
