Position Overview
Job Description: The VP of Business Development will lead the effort to target clients and establish relationships that will enable Meridian to execute its business plan.
Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the VP of Business Development will be responsible for researching and identifying prospective healthcare and life science client targets and collaborating internally on outreach strategy. Client targets are healthcare providers, major healthcare systems, physician groups and specialty healthcare providers in Meridian’s key markets. The VP of Business Development is a member of the greater team that will drive success in securing new healthcare real estate development opportunities including build-to-suits, sale-leaseback, and repurposing buildings to medical.
Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 10 years of relevant business development experience with a healthcare-focused real estate developer, building contractor, or architect, with a proven track record of identifying potential development possibilities and establishing new relationships.
The successful candidate will have a strong interest in pursuing a career on the principal side of real estate development in the healthcare space.
Primary Responsibilities & Duties:
Business Development
- Identify potential build-to-suit / preferred development opportunities that meet the Company strategy.
- Conduct market research and gather information on potential clients and projects. Ability to compile and analyze data, comps and cap rates for financial analysis.
- Present high level development strategies with the assistance of Meridian “Developers”, including joint ventures, strategic partnerships for physician investment, and responses to requests for proposals.
- Collaborate effectively with the team to convert potential opportunities into real projects. Participate in project specific strategy meetings.
- Basic understand commercial real estate, finance, and capital markets.
Public/Client Relations
- Identify, develop and maintain contacts within the industry, targeting key companies and their real estate teams. Seek opportunities to strengthen client relationships and develop applicable sales strategies.
- Attend industry meetings and conferences with a focus on networking, expanding relationships and identifying future opportunities.
- Strongly understand the Company strategy and maintain up-to-date knowledge of the Company’s key projects – ability to speak knowledgeably of the Company’s capabilities and advantages.
- Be actively involved in several professional organizations and industry associations to promote Meridian recognition.
Internal Contributions
- Assist in the overall vision and implementation of business development strategy for Meridian.
- Stay informed regarding area competition with a focus on improving Meridian’s competitive advantage.
- Update and maintain project pipeline and review weekly with leadership team.
- Assist with the development of Meridian staff and act as mentor to Business Development and Acquisitions Analysts.
- Curate and maintain contact list of systems and brokers in the Company’s CRM (Salesforce).
Education, Experience & Attributes:
- The ideal candidate will be an extremely motivated team player with high energy and drive to succeed. The candidate should possess a strong strategic mindset with the ability to think intuitively.
- Experience in actively approaching industry professionals and building strong rapport with clients and organizations. Ability to build relationships with key members of organizations and effectively interact with senior management level clients.

- Excellent presentation skills with the ability to explain complex issues/data with clarity and impact.
- Strong interpersonal, management, and organizational skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to be detail orientated and multi-task.
- BA/BS in Marketing, Business, Real Estate, Finance or related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant business development experience with a healthcare focused real estate developer, contractor, or architect, with a proven track record of identifying potential development possibilities and establishing new relationships.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, CoStar, Revista, Definitive Healthcare and other relevant software.

Environmental Conditions:
- Travel throughout Western US required with occasional overnight stays

The compensation plan for this role will be commensurate with the skills required of the position. As such, it will be comprised of a base salary, and an annual performance-based incentive which is determined upon individual and portfolio performance.
