Job Description
As a Senior Development Consultant with Downtown Strategy, you will oversee high-priority client portfolios, support and facilitate private investment in downtown properties, and lead the planning implementation of multimillion dollar incentive programs. This position is responsible for report writing, presenting at Committee and Council, and managing projects with confidential and highly sensitive commercial information that has material significance to the Corporation and the Greater Downtown community. Primary duties include:
- Manage diverse, complex, high-priority, and highly confidential client and development portfolios across the Greater Downtown geographic area. Provide proactive concierge service to downtown clients and drive private investment in strategic locations.
- Lead the planning implementation of the Downtown Calgary Development Incentive Program, and other grant programs within the business unit.
- Drive private investment in downtown properties towards achieving the vision of the Greater Downtown Plan.
- Facilitate public-private partnerships and collaboration for capital projects.
- Manage external consultants across a variety of strategic projects and initiatives and develop Request for Proposals (RFPs) and Request for Quotes (RFQs) for consultant requirements, conduct interviews as needed, review Consultant proposals, hire and onboard, delegate tasks and direct timelines, oversee and manage work and deliverables.
- Support the supervision of staff within the division as well as other business units with respect to cross-corporate initiatives. Coach and mentor junior staff, task delegation and workload management, and support the professional development of junior staff.

A degree in planning, real estate development, land economics or related field and at least 7 years of progressive planning, real estate and development, or combination of other relevant experience.

Preference given to a graduate degree with a complementary mix of education across degrees.

Supervisory knowledge and experience are required.

Eligibility for CIP membership would be an asset.

Ability to mentor, manage a team, as well as oversee team members’ work and professional development are critical in this role.

Strong communication and facilitation skills with the ability to influence others and build consensus and the ability to handle and implement change are necessary for success in this role.
