Position Summary

 

A primary strategy of the Steers Center is a student-centric approach to everything we do.  As a strategic business partner, the Student Experience Director, a newly created position, will provide comprehensive leadership and management of the total non-curricular experience of the Center’s students1. This includes orienting students to Steers and Georgetown, supporting their successful transition into the program, encouraging leadership development, student engagement, and optimizing the value of a Steers education by ensuring that students avail themselves of all the Steers Center and Georgetown have to offer.  Our goal is to support a holistic student experience that prepares students to achieve not only their academic and professional goals but also their personal, social, and community aspirations.

Major Responsibilities:

 

This position will interact principally with the students of the Steers Center for Global Real Estate in most of the Center’s co-curricular activities.  The position also entails a strong interface with the Center’s Director, Steers alumni, outside speakers, business professionals, employers, and coaches associated with the Center’s public and private funds, Steers Advisory Services (SAS), and other co-curricular programs.  Periodic interaction with the Steers Chair, Clark Chair, Office of Marketing and Communications, faculty at MSB, and MSB staff will also occur.

 

Students

· Manages and/or oversees the experiential and co-curricular aspect of students’ education including:

 

    • The Steers Funds: the student-led public and private real estate investment funds
    • Case competitions; both internal and external competitions
    • Career Treks
    • Property tours, site visits
    • Co-curricular education including coordinating guest speakers and lecturers                                            
    • Community service engagements and other Washington, D.C. outreach opportunities

Alumni

 

  • Maximizes alumni engagement with students including setting up mentoring programs and helping source alumni-sponsored co-curricular student practicums, and coaching one student team annually.

General

 

  • Promotes the capabilities and processes needed to move the faculty, staff, and vendors to a customer-centric perspective.
  • Leads the analysis of competitors, benchmarking Steers’ co-curricular and other programming against peer universities.
  • Supports the Marketing and Events Coordinator in the execution of Steers Center events.
  • Uses customer insights including Net Promoter Scores to identify areas for improvement and innovation to deliver greater student value.
  • Provides a one-stop point of contact for all students’ questions, issues, or requests.
  • Serves as a key member of the Steers Leadership Team helping to create and reinforce a strong, customer-centric culture.

Technical:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business with a minimum of 5 years work experience, preferably in a customer-facing or executive coaching role.  Prior experience in commercial real estate is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills including listening, written, and verbal.
  • Strong project management skills, managing diverse groups often to tight deadlines.
  • Fast-learner: can learn the parlance of the commercial real estate industry relatively quickly, if unfamiliar.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office standard software, Salesforce, Qualtrics (or other survey tool), and project management software.
  • Have a willingness and ability to travel with student group both domestically and abroad.
