Real Estate Controller (Commercial Real Estate)
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Real Estate Controller to oversee the financial operations of our commercial real estate company. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, financial management, and the unique aspects of the real estate industry. The Real Estate Controller will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, and effective financial planning to support the company's strategic goals.

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Real Estate Controller to oversee the financial operations of our commercial real estate company. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, financial management, and the unique aspects of the real estate industry. The Real Estate Controller will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, and effective financial planning to support the company's strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management:
- Oversee the preparation of financial statements, including income statements, compiling assistance/ due diligence, Underwriting deals, balance sheets, and cash flow statements for the commercial real estate portfolio.
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to ensure financial goals are met.
- Monitor and report on key financial performance metrics.
- Organizing subscriptions and operating agreements to partners.
Accounting Operations:
- Manage day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance.
- Managing bank accounts.
- Preparing an executing deal structure ownerships, percentages, and distributions.
- Ensure proper accounting treatment for real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, and capital improvements.
- Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings.
Compliance and Audit:
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, real estate laws, and other financial reporting standards.
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to manage annual audits and tax filings.
- File tax certificates
Team Leadership:
- Supervise and mentor the accounting and finance team, fostering professional growth and efficiency.
- Collaborate with other departments, including property management, legal, and leasing, to provide financial insights and support.
Systems and Processes:
- Optimize accounting systems and tools for streamlined financial operations.
- Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy.
Stakeholder Communication:
- Provide financial reports and updates to executive leadership, board members, and investors.
- Prepare presentations and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or equivalent certification preferred).
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within the real estate industry.
- In-depth knowledge of commercial real estate accounting, including CAM reconciliations, lease accounting, and real estate transactions.
- Proficiency in real estate accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, or similar platforms).
- Strong understanding of GAAP and other relevant accounting standards.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
