Job Description
R4 Capital is seeking to hire an Underwriter (Associate to VP level candidates invited to apply) to join the Credit Underwriting group to accommodate an expanding transaction pipeline. The preferred location is Boston, MA, but New York, NY will be considered. The Underwriter will be broadly responsible for the credit underwriting and closing of both debt and equity Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) executions. Primary responsibilities will include:
§ Financial analysis and modeling of multifamily real estate transactions for both debt and equity executions to ensure internal Investment Standards are satisfied
§ Serve as primary point of contact with Acquisition/Origination Team colleagues and ability to solely manage transactions from initial stages through closing with internal colleagues and external clients
§ Review third‐party reports and facilitate delivery of due diligence required for each report
§ Collect and review due diligence materials related to underwriting packages, provide feedback to internal stakeholders and project developers as appropriate; includes engineering documents, environmental documents, legal documents, and financial documents related to each transaction
§ Coordinate and partake in site inspections with outside stakeholders at locations throughout the United States and its respective territories based upon transaction assignment (travel approximately 25% annually)
§ Produce comprehensive credit underwriting analysis report for presentation to both internal Investment Committee and external Investors
§ Coordinate investor requests and presentations when selected by Chief Credit Officer
§ Work in a team environment that will require effective coordination and communication internally, as well with developer clients and third‐party reporters
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science in economics, finance, accounting or real estate, with strong analytical, Microsoft Excel, and verbal communication skills. Strong writing skills are also a requirement with finance or real estate finance educational background preferred. Minimum work experience within the Real Estate Finance sector of three to five years (Associate Level) and five to seven years (Assistant VP or VP Level) with strong preference within the affordable multifamily housing sector.
R4 considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate’s education, training, qualifications, and experience. The minimum salary for the full-time Underwriter position is $90,000 annually and the maximum salary for the position is $150,000 annually, with final salary determination based on prior experience. In addition, all full-time employees are eligible for a discretionary bonus and to participate in various benefit plans, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability insurance, and 401K matching, in each case in accordance with the terms of the applicable plans.
