THE COMPANY
Shelter Growth Capital Partners (SGCP) is a real estate credit investment manager focused on building and managing diversified portfolios of commercial and residential loan and security assets. We manage approximately $3 billion in AUM across a range of private funds and separately managed accounts.
Founded in 2015 by former Goldman Sachs partners, SGCP has originated or acquired over $18 billion of real estate loans to date. The firm operates with 47 professionals in Stamford and 150 employees nationwide through our affiliated direct lending platform.
Our culture combines the intensity of a buy-side investment firm with the collaborative spirit of a small startup—offering early-career professionals unmatched exposure, responsibility, and learning.
We’re looking for a Commercial Real Estate (CRE) Mortgage Underwriter with 2–4 years of experience to join our small team of real estate professionals that have worked together for nearly a decade. You’ll be underwriting bridge loans across all commercial real estate asset classes while working closely with originators, credit, and asset management, in addition to SGCP’s founders.
What You’ll Do
- Provide analytical support in the screening, sizing, structuring, underwriting, and closing commercial real estate loans (senior mortgages, mezzanine, and preferred equity)
- Work closely with senior originators in the preparation and presentation of screening and credit committee memorandums
- Review borrower / sponsor experience, financial statements and REO schedules
- Conduct market due diligence to analyze and summarize key supply/demand metrics, historic market performance and projections
- Identify and summarize rent and sales comparables obtained from sales and leasing brokers, and third-party databases
- Review rent rolls, leases, CAM reconciliations, loan documents and third-party reports
- Perform cash flow modeling, valuation and risk analysis across CRE property types, with a heavy focus on multifamily and industrial assets
- Perform site inspections with senior originators
- Assist with the preparation of settlement statements
- Communicate with mortgage brokers, borrowers, lender’s counsel, and third-party report venders
- Communicate and respond to information requests from investors and joint venture clients.
- Assist CRE Head of Asset Management with post-closing portfolio management, including asset reporting, warehouse financing, securitization, and workouts
What We’re Looking For
- 2–4 years’ experience in CRE underwriting, credit analysis, or lending
- Strong grasp of financial modeling and loan underwriting metrics
- Strong Excel skills (Argus a plus)
- Strong communication and writing skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Real Estate, Economics, or related field
