Primary Duties & Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Supervision and Review: Inspires and holds staff accountable for a high level of performance, teamwork and customer service. Supervision includes, but is not limited to providing regular ongoing feedback, coaching and mentoring, writing and conducting performance reviews and developing goals. Also responsible for the hiring, onboarding, training, and reviewing of work of all property and development accountants, and temporary accounting staff. Performs mid-year performance review check-ins as well as annual performance review for staff. Functions as a backup as necessary to property accountants and Controller in relation to property and development accounting.
- Audits and Cost Certifications: Manages the preparation and process of the annual audit function for all properties and cost certifications for development projects. Reviews the quality and completeness of materials submitted to the auditors and that audit questions are answered, and audit issues are fully resolved.
- Financial Statements and Reporting: Monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting review of closes and required financial reporting to investors, lenders and external regulatory agencies for the entire property portfolio. Provides direct property accounting services for new projects until they are fully transitioned into operations. Prepares additional reports as necessary.
- Budgets: Ensures the budget worksheets with finance input are provided to property management by established deadlines and that approved budgets are interested into the accounting system.
- Cost Certifications: Works with development project managers and auditors to prepare cost certifications for newly constructed and rehabilitated housing projects.
- Property Accounting for Newly Developed Projects: Provides a seamless accounting transition for newly developed projects from the development stage to the stabilization stage.
- Yardi Construction Module: Troubleshoots and resolves issues related to the module.
- Development Draws: Oversight of preparation and/or review of development funding draw requests, line of credit drawdown and repayment requests, and that funding receipts are deposited and/or transferred as needed to meet the payment obligations for all development projects.
- Development General Ledger and Construction Module: Ensures that development sources and uses spreadsheets reconcile to the development general ledger and construction module in Yardi. Oversees the provision of reports to development and management staff as needed. Maintains and ensures data integrity in the Yardi construction module.
- Development-Related Accounts Payable: Oversees the process for accounts payable for development projects. Determines payment requests have proper authorization, coding, documentation and are mathematically accurate. Ensures accounts payable are properly entered into the accounting system and that checks are printed, signed, and mailed.
- Journal Entries: Ensures that all development project activity is accurately recorded in the general ledger.
- General Accounting Month and Year End Closes: Ensures that all monthly and year end close functions are completed on schedule.
- Policy & Procedure Development: Responsible for developing, documenting and maintaining comprehensive and clear policies and procedures that pertain to the property and development accounting groups.
- Internal Controls: Assists the Property and RED Controller with the review and establishment of internal controls as they relate to the property and development accounting functions.
- Other: Additional duties as assigned by supervisor and management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or accounting or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 2 years supervisory experience or equivalent experience with mentoring, leading or supporting working groups and/or junior-level staff.
- Technical knowledge of all accounting functional areas and GAAP.
- Knowledge of HUD and/or tax credit regulatory requirements a plus.
- Must be experienced and highly skilled in Excel & MS Word.
- Ability to effectively train and coach others in the technical aspects of this position as well as leading staff to become contributing members of SAHA.
- Ability to work collaboratively with different levels of staff and management.
- Ability to autonomously handle daily responsibilities and projects with minimal direction.
- Must be accurate, organized, and highly detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and follow-through on all projects.
- Excellent written, oral and presentation skills, writing sample required.
- Excellent decision-making, interpersonal and time management skills.
- Desire to improve existing processes and systems and the ability to follow through and lead that change.
- Ability to visualize, gather information, articulate, analyze, solve complex problems, and make decisions.
- Ability to assimilate a variety of information from diverse individuals and make decisions for which a precedent may not exist.
- Ability to review the work of other accountants.
- Ability to comprehensively and clearly document procedures.
- Ability to work under pressure and successfully meet deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-cultural team.
- Directly supervises up to 6 accountants.
- Must be skilled in all math applications with ability to analyze and review financial data. Must be highly accurate in mathematical computations.
- Position requires simple grasping and fine manipulation, sitting at a desk and using a computer for extended periods of time, moderate use of telephone, standing, walking, bending and reaching.

This position is primarily based on-site in an open-office environment with business-casual attire.
During the initial onboarding period (approximately 90 days), the Accounting Manager is expected to work on-site four to five days per week to support training and team integration. A hybrid schedule and additional flexibility may be available after the onboarding period, depending on performance and operational needs.
