Job Description
- Oversee accounting and financial reporting for all active and completed development projects.
- Manage property accounting for operating assets across multifamily, retail, and commercial portfolios.
- Direct investment management accounting operations, including reporting for internal and external investors.
- Lead preparation and coordination of multiple external audits, including development, property, and fund audits.
- Supervise and develop a team of accountants, ensuring accurate and timely reporting across all verticals.
- Collaborate with development and construction teams to manage project budgets, draw processes, cost tracking, and capitalization policies.
- Work closely with asset management and property management teams to support financial operations and performance tracking.
- Ensure accurate recording and reporting of capital expenditures and tenant improvements.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
- Coordinate with third-party accounting firms and will oversee outsourcing partners to ensure consistent and accurate accounting practices, effective workflow management, and timely deliverables.
- Support technology initiatives across the accounting function, including system enhancements, integrations, and automation efforts to improve accuracy, scalability, and efficiency across development and property accounting workflows.
- Collaborate with Controller on strategic initiatives, including cash flow forecasting, portfolio-level financial analysis, and the implementation of best practices across development, property, and fund accounting operations.
Candidate Qualifications:
- Experience: At least 7–10 years in progressively responsible accounting roles, preferably within real estate development, property management, or public accounting firms serving real estate clients.
- Technical skills: Strong understanding of GAAP, real estate development accounting, job costing, and property operations. Experience with investment reporting is preferred.
- Systems knowledge: Familiarity with accounting and construction software platforms.
- Audit experience: Demonstrated ability to lead and manage multiple audits (project, property, and investment)
- Analytical ability: Skilled at interpreting financial data, identifying trends, and supporting business decisions with accurate, actionable information.
- Leadership: Proven ability to manage and mentor a team in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment. Collaborative and communicative management style.
- Organizational capability: Comfortable juggling multiple priorities across a broad portfolio; high attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger picture.
- Professionalism: Confident in working with internal stakeholders and external parties, including auditors, lenders, investors, and joint venture partners.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. CPA or active CPA candidacy is preferred.
