Position Overview:
The Company is seeking an experienced Chief Accounting Officer to support their rapidly growing commercial real estate platform. Under the general supervision of the Company Cofounders, the Chief Accounting Officer is responsible for overseeing all aspects of accounting operations, including Financial Reporting, AP/AR, and Treasury. The position will manage the day-to-day of all accounting processes and systems that function across the organization, ensure compliance, promote cross-departmental collaboration, and provide strategic financial leadership.
This is a unique opportunity for a motivated, hands-on financial executive to join an entrepreneurial, privately-owned real estate company. The ideal candidate must have a strong technical fund, property and corporate accounting/finance background. They must be eager and confident with new and complex matters, be attentive to details and deadlines, have outstanding internal and external communication skills, and be able to juggle varied tasks within a team environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
Accounting Operations
- Oversee all aspects of the accounting function, including financial reporting, audit, AP/AR, and treasury
- Facilitate/oversee all treasury management responsibilities including input of electronic transfers, monitoring cash, administration of entitlements within banking portal, and review of monthly bank reconciliations
- Measure, monitor, and report on accounting team performance
- Manage payment approval systems and credit card programs with the goal of minimizing credit card usage and reducing risk, while simultaneously limiting unnecessary bureaucracy
- Establish, document, and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure efficiency, scalability, and compliance while minimizing risk
- Deliver outstanding accounting service to internal and external partners while efficiently managing company resources
- Determine, implement, and maintain and improve accounting systems
Leadership
- Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, providing strategic direction and financial oversight to support the firm’s growth and long-term goals
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professionalism
- Provide training and development to ensure team members remain up to date with evolving accounting standards and industry practices and to generate a pipeline of future accounting leaders
- Drive the accounting team to achieve team goals while helping the Company to achieve Company goals
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with Systems, Asset Management, HR, Operations, and Finance teams to provide financial insights and ensure alignment of business decisions with company strategy
- Support Asset Management and Finance on budgeting and forecasting
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field from a four-year college
- CPA and 15 years’ minimum experience in full cycle accounting
- Previous experience as a seasoned accounting leader at a mid-sized multifamily real estate operator / property manager is required
- Previous experience working with high quality institutional Limited Partners as an accounting executive of an operator is required
- Yardi experience required

- Proven ability to performance manage a team, including gathering documentation and working with HR team to follow existing process
- Ability to synthesize large quantities of complex data into actionable information
- Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable with meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
