Job Summary

The Newmark Real Estate Investment Banking team is looking to bring on an Associate or VP to join the New York office. The group is currently comprised of a deep team of real estate investment banking professionals from various real estate equity and finance backgrounds. The Associate/VP will be joining the Strategic Advisory group which largely functions as the Investment Banking / Corporate Advisory role within the Newmark Capital Markets platform. The group has a very active current transaction volume and a robust pipeline of large-scale equity transactions including portfolio recapitalizations, continuation fund raises, programmatic equity raises, M&A/REIT privatizations, GP/Opco investments, investment sales and financing solutions.
The Strategic Advisory team is focused on a wide range of equity transactions for both public and private commercial real estate clients. The team focuses on property and portfolio/platform level transactions across all property types, including residential, retail, industrial, retail, hospitality and alternative assets throughout North America. The role will be involved in every stage of a transaction including underwriting, market research, property tours, preparation of pitch materials and offering memoranda, marketing of transactions, discussions with capital, term sheet negotiations, closings, and client meetings / events. The position will be based in-office and work in a high-energy and fast-paced environment.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the analyst pool to prepare pitch materials and offering memoranda for commercial real estate transactions, incorporating thorough research and financial modeling.
  • Lead the transaction process from sourcing through execution of equity transactions on behalf of Newmark’s institutional clients, ensuring seamless deal management.
  • Maintain regular engagement with Newmark’s clients by leading transaction update calls and participating in client meetings to discuss new business opportunities.
  • Conduct complex financial modeling of property-level cash flows and debt/equity structures, leveraging client information, market data / research to provide accurate underwriting.
  • Review and analyze key transaction documents, including LOI/term sheets and joint venture contracts to extract and assess relevant information efficiently.
  • Build and strengthen industry relationships through active participation in meetings, events, and real estate trade organizations.
  • Contribute to weekly pipeline meetings by discussing deal flow, transaction status, market conditions, and prospective client opportunities.
  • Track and maintain database of transaction executions and help identify new business opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 Experience Required
  • 2-8 years of finance and/or commercial real estate capital markets experience in an analytically rigorous environment. Real estate investment banking or commercial real estate advisory/investment experience is preferred.
  • Experience closing transactions across a broad range of asset classes and transaction types (i.e. exposure to equity raises, portfolio recaps, M&A, development and stabilized portfolios). 
  • Self-motivated, team oriented, and strong time management skills to prioritize tight deadlines.
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative information.
  • Ability to be proactive, anticipate demands and accomplish tasks with minimal direction and oversight.
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, quantitative, writing and communication skills; able to interface with clients including their top-level executives.
  • Strong writing skills with ability to communicate analytical and marketing data effectively.
  • Ability to work independently while being a team player.
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Real Estate, Finance, Accounting, Economics or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Computer Skills
  • Proficiency in Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
